The following Clans (four, at present) are comprised of contemporary DNA
participant/donors whose DNA marker values results on the 25-, 37- or 67-marker
tests match almost perfectly. The closer the match of alleles values, the
higher the probability of having a recent common ancestor. (Looking at
it in another direction, there is virtually no possibility of any participant in
one Clan being remotely related to a participant in another Clan, regardless
of the duplication of the surname "Barron.") All the participants
in each of the four Clans below share a common male Barron ancestor, perhaps
as recently as a hundred years ago, or as far in the past as many centuries
ago.
For a detailed chart presentation of all alleles values for all participants
below, click
here (wait a moment for the Y-dna chart to load). You may also
view an analysis of the mutations within each Clan by clicking
here and going to the Mutation Analysis page. While the
determination of the exact value of each alleles value (or marker) is an
advanced science, the statistical interpretation of the results is not. We
encourage any reader to contact the Project Co-administrators for assistance in
evaluating individual relationships.
What do these "Clans" mean? Every individual in each Clan is, by definition, a cousin to every other individual in their
Clan. Perhaps the relationship is "third cousin, 10 times removed," but each is a
cousin to the others by virtue of having a "recent" common ancestor
(say, within the last 800 years or so). Remember, in order for
an individual to be assigned to any Clan, their 25-marker DNA test results
must demonstrate at least a 25% probability of
having a Common Ancestor within the past 24 generations with any other
individual in a Clan.

CLAN 2 - 15 members
Three participants in this Clan matched
on 67 markers. Oran Barron of the line of William Barron of Georgia;
Keith Barron descends from Archibald Barron of York County, SC and Michael Barron, a descendent of William
Barron of South Carolina and Tennessee, likely the line of Alexander
Barron of York County, South Carolina. Other participants differed
from this baseline by only one to three markers, indicating a very tight
relationship in this Clan.

Participant William Paul Barron, Jr. has the longest proven Barron
lineage of any of the following participants. One of the objectives of
this DNA project was to prove the connection between William Paul Barron's
ancestral line and those of the other participants, in order to validate
the proposed relationship between an early American Barron, James Barron
(b. 1752) and his "lost" son, Caleb Barron (b. 1797).

The Haplogroup for each of the following individuals are shown below
their respective names. Any individual who wishes to review their
haplogroup designation may find descriptive information by clicking
here. It is noteworthy that about 90% of the entire Barron Y-DNA participant list
descend from the Celtic group of R1b. Thus
far, all four unique clans (1 through 4, above) have designated
haplogroups of R1b and its derivative. |

comparison is limited to comparing 24 of the first 37 markers which leads
us to the conclusion that since there is a minimum of a four step mutation
difference, his ancestry will represent a new Barron line, should a closer
match occur in the future. Robert's Y-DNA results confirm that his
Haplogroup is R1b, as expected for most individuals who have a Scotland lineage.) |
