We are starting a mailing list for people interested in the genealogy of the DUMAS surname. Please excuse us if this is a duplicate message as some of the sources of addresses we are using to promote the new list may include your address twice.
This is NOT a commercial venture. This is purely a non-profit, volunteer effort. You have been contacted because your name is DUMAS or you have DUMAS as one of your ancestors names or you have by other means indicated an interest in studying DUMAS genealogy. You will not be contacted again about this subject.

WHAT IS A GENEALOGY E-MAIL LIST ABOUT?
Any member of an e-mail list may send information to the list address and this information is received as an e-mail message by all members of the list. By sharing information through such a list, researchers are able to help each other and often discover ancestors or even living relatives they may not have known existed. Any information that is helpful to a genealogical search may be shared on the list including techniques, sources of information, etc.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Belonging to the list costs absolutely NOTHING. The mechanics of the list are supported by the good folks at ROOTSWEB in Frazier Park California and they do this solely for the furtherance of genealogy. They have expenses that are supported by volunteer donations but these are not mandatory for membership to any of the lists they support.
HOW DOES ONE SUBSCRIBE?
It is very easy to subscribe. All that is required is that you send an e-mail message with the word "subscribe" by itself in the body of the message to DUMAS-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com. Make sure that there are no signatures or other extraneous words in the message. If your e-mail software requires a subject, you may enter the word "Subscribe" there also.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Upon subscribing, you will soon receive an e-mail message with instructions on how to use the DUMAS list. You will also begin to receive any messages posted by other DUMAS researchers to the list address. If you want to post a query (a statement or description of your DUMAS family and what you are looking for) to the list membership, send the query in an e-mail message to the list address: DUMAS-L@rootsweb.com. This will all be described again in the message you get upon subscribing. Notice that this last address is different from the one you used to subscribe to the list.
If you yourself are not currently interested in DUMAS genealogy research but know of someone who is, please pass this message on to them.
