Deed: Robert and Elizabeth Via to William Dodson, 1849
This Indenture made and entered into the 25th day of July one thousand eight hundred & forty nine, between Robert Via and his wife Elizabeth of the County of Patrick & state of Virginia of the one part & William Dodson of the same county aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that whereas the said Robert Via executor of William Via deceased, & his wife Elizabeth for & in consideration of five hundred dollars current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said William Dodson the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said Robert Via & his wife Elizabeth Via hath granted and sold released and confirmed, and by these presents doth bargain, sell, release & confirm unto the said William Dodson four tracts of land all adjoining in the County of Patrick on the waters of Smiths River containing two hundred & ninety three acres more or less that is to say one tract containing ninety six acres called Clamches Survey with one bank or mine hole & bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning on a red oak, thence new line N76 E110 ps to a maple on a branch S10 W148 ps crossing said branch to a poplar, S81 W22 ps to a chesnut oak, S27 W60 ps to pointers, N57 W60 ps to a red oak on a ridge & on the same to the beginning, also one other tract purchased from James & Joseph containing seven acres more or less and bounded Beginning at a post oak in Daniel Cox & William Vias line thence with said Cox's line to Belchers line & with Belchers line to a post oak in said Via's line & with his line to a white oak, thence to a black gum, thence to a red oak on a ridge, thence with the ridge as it meanders to the beginning Also one other tract purchased from William Walden containing fifty acres more or less and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning on a corner gum in Edward Lewis's line, thence W course along Joseph Walden's line to a white oak on the top of a ridge in James Cox's line, thence South course along said Cox's line to a post oak, thence South course crossing a branch to a poplar in James Ingrum's line, thence East in said line to a ash, thence a North Course to first station Also one other tract purchased of Abel Pedigo containing one hundred and forty acres more or less and bounded as follows, to wit - Beginning at a black gum in Anthony Street's line thence new line down the Falling branch to the old line with it to a red oak corner, S23 W101 ps to pointers S58 E121 ps to a white oak S45 E64 ps crossing a branch to a chestnut, N18 E to a white oak, thence a new line to the waggon road & with said road to a black oak corner, thence new line to a white oak in the old lines N55 E crossing a branch to a poplar, N9 E17 ps to the beginning To have and to hold the said tracts of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto him the said William Dodson & his heirs & assigns forever against the claim of him the said Robert Via & his wife Elizabeth Via them and their heirs, executors or administrators & any person claiming under them or through them. In Witness whereof the said Robert Via & his wife Elizabeth Via has hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals the day and year first written.

Patrick County, to wit - We J Turner and Crawford Turner justices of the peace in and for the said county, do hereby certify that Robert Via a party to the within deed, bearing date the 25th day of July 1849 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed, and directed us to certify the said acknowledgment to the clerk of the county court of Patrick in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals the 8th day of September 1849.

We John Turner and Crawford Turner justices of the peace in the county aforesaid
State of Virginia do hereby certify that Elizabeth Via the wife of Robert Via,
party to a certain deed bearing date on the 25th day of July 1849 and hereunto
annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and being examined
by us privily and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully
explained to her, she the said Elizabeth Via acknowledged the same to be her
act and deed and declared that she had willingly signed sealed and delivered
the same and that she wished not to retract it. Given under our hands and seals
this 8th day of Sept 1849.

This deed of bargain and sale from Robert Via and wife to William Dodson with
the certificate of acknowledgment and relinquishment of dower thereon endorsed
was exhibited in the clerks office aforesaid and admitted to record.
