The Farmers' Friend, of August 12th, alluding to the murder of Jane Graham, in Monroe county, says
It was thought that she had burnt her father's barn, which we noticed last week, as she was missing when in occurred. Now it is believed that it was burnt by some other persons who was with her, and who afterwards murdered her and put her in the tree that she might not be found. We have not learned who suspicion rests upon, but hope the wretch may be discovered and brought to justice.
We have heretofore merely published an account of the burning of Mr.
Graham's barn from the fact that there were so many conflicting rumors
in reference to the murder of Miss Graham, that we could get nothing reliable.
We can only say this much, however, that the Grahams are not under arrest,
as the Richmond Dispatch would have the public believe. We learn
that there are one or more of Mr. Graham's negro men in the Monroe jail,
awaiting their trial for the murder of Jane Graham, and that the evidence
against them is that of colored persons.
