Generation No. 1
1. Thomas7 Jordan (Joseph6, Jacob5,
Charles Jordan4 (I), John Jordan3 (II), John Jordan2
(I), Richard1 Jordan)1,2,3 was born Abt. 1793 in
NC.4, and died Nov 1846 in Edenton, Clermont Co., OH.5. He married Elizabeth Ford6,7,8,9
12 Jun 1820 in Chowan County, NC.10, daughter of William Ford
and unknown. She was born Abt. 1797 in
NC., and died Abt. 1853 in Edenton, Clermont Co.,OH..
Notes
for Thomas Jordan:
In
1850 census Elizabeth and family live next to William Dail and his wife Mary
(Jordan), probable niece of Thomas Jordan Sr. (See Joseph Jordan/Darkis Ford
family ). Willam Dail also came from the Dails of Chowan Co., NC. His wife Mary is the believed daughter of
Joseph Jordan, possible brother of Thomas.
There
is a Maria Jordon (age 22) living a few pages away in 1850 Clermont County,
Wayne Twp, Ohio. She is living with
farmer Joseph Sly. She has a child with
her named Elizabeth R. Jordon. This
appears to be Maria Sly who married Miles Jordan (son of Joseph and Darkis
Ford).
There
is an obvious relationship between our Thomas Jordan and the families of Silas
V. Jordan (founder of Edenton, OH.), as well as Harrison Jordan and his brother
Joseph, also in Clermont County. It is
unsure what the connection is but it appears that Harrison and Joseph were the
nephews of Thomas, being children of Thomas' brother Joseph (II) (not proven)
or even possibly brothers (with possibly different mothers). It seems that our Thomas and Silas were 1st
cousins, with Silas' dad Jacob (proven) being Thomas' uncle.
I
do not believe our Thomas Jordan is in the 1830 Census for NC. He might have been "on the road" at
that point.
As
recorded by a Boyscout many years ago, burial plot is Row 5, Stone 16. There is nothing recorded for stone 17 but
the son Thomas (Jr.) and his wife are buried at Stone 18. HOWEVER, In Dec. of 2004 I visited the
graves of my great-great-great grandfather Thomas and his son Thomas and this
appears incorrect. The son Thomas is in
a plot with his wife and is clearly marked.
On each side of this plot are markers.
One says Father and one says Mother.
I can assume these are the parents of Thomas because near the
"Father" marker was a concrete block which had the initials T.J. on it
for Thomas Jordan. So actually if Thomas
Jordan (Jr.) is at stone 18 then his mother is stone 17 and his father is at
stone 19. At stone 16 was a marker for
an infant daughter of Thomas Jordan Jr.
It was hard to read, which might have led to the Boyscout's error.
Shown
as having 10 children in 1840 census.
Near
Edenton, OH. there is a Jordan Road named after our Jordans who lived in the
area. Garrison Spurling Rd. turns into
Jordan Rd. around when it crosses over Locust Creek. Goes to Warren Co. line just west of
Woodville.

Notes
for Henry Jordan:
Henry
and brother Joseph were married by the same Justice of the Peace.
Kem
Luther says:
"In
the 1850 census I found a Henry and Hanna Jordan from North Carolina, ages 28
and 22, with children Mary E. (b. circa 1847) and Howard (b. circa 1849),
living next to a David and Mary Bivans and six children. David Bivans may be related to the Joseph A.
Bivans who married Elisha's oldest daughter.
The Bivans came from Wales about 1840. The Bivans connection makes me
think that this Henry Jordan must be related to Elisha. He may be an older brother. The Bivans and
Jordans in the 1850 census were in Perry Township. They may have been living
about mile southwest of Chasetown, in the same area that an 1870s plat map
places Elisha Jordan and S. J. Bivans, the father-in-law of Elisha's daughter.

Leslie worked as a Hired Hand for
Alvah A. Rock in 1920 in Ridge Township, Dickinson County, Kansas. His wife was referred to as Ellen Jordan at
the time, on the census. With them is
their 13 yr. old son Dorance. By 1930
census, Ellen is the spouse of Alvah, Leslie is gone and Dorance is still with
them and 23. Ellen is referred to as
Sarah E. Rocks on the census.
There has always been some family
speculation that Leslie was murdered (and possibly with the encouragment of his
wife). We know he died in
Missouri. This requires a lot more
investigating though.
