He married (1) ORANGE LUMBERT 14 September 1860 in Odessa, Ionia Co., Mi., daughter of JABEZ LUMBERT and ELIZABETH OLMSTEAD. She was born 28 April 1838 in Sandusky, , OH, and died 30 June 1895 in Colwich, Sedg. Co., Ks.. He married (2) LOUISA COATS 14 March 1901 in Halstead, , Kansas.

Charles E. Tupper, the subject of this sketch, was born in Iona Co., Mich. Oct. 3rd. 1845, where he grew into manhood, adn where in the year 1880, Sept. the 14" he was united in marriage to Miss Orange Lumbert.

There were born to this union seven children, of whom 4 daughters survive their father and were present at the time of his death.

He came to Kansas in 1871 and settled on a homestead near Mount Hope adn after 12 years sold this and bought a farm in the vicinity of this place where he resided until about 6 years ago, when he moved into town in the month of June '95 she who had been a true helpmate in building up the home, in rearing the family, in bearing the tolls and cares of life and who had shared in it's joys and it's sorrows, passed into the beyond. Thus leaving him to experience the peculiar loneliness from going out from the home the children adn the loss of a companion.

On the 14th day of march 1901 he was married to Louisa Coats at Halstead who with the above named daughters and an only brother M. F. Tupper of Blanchard Mich. are his only survivers. The latter arriving just in time for the funeral services.

At the call of his country on Feb. 8 '64. he enlisted in company A. 10th Reg't, Mich. Vol. Inft., and after serving 18 month rec'd an honorable discharge. He has been a member for some years of Post No. 354 of G.A.R.

The deceased has been in declining health for the past 2 years but recently his strength Began failing more rapidly indicating that the end was nigh and on April 29, 1910 he passed quietly away at 7 a.m. At the age of 67 yrs. 6 mos. 23 days.

Mr. Tupper was a good citizen, an indulgent father and a kind husband. As the end grew near he expressed a willingness adn preparedness to depart this life. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Thurs. 28th, 10 a m conducted by Rev. Mann of Sedgwick former pastor assisted by the pastor W. J. Barron. And the remains were laid to rest in the Colwich cemetery.

Resolution of Condolence. No. 354, G.A.R.

Whereas God in his infinite wisdom has removed from our order Charlie Tupper who while in health was worthy of our respect and love as a true brother of the Rebecca lodge therefore.

Resolved that we extend our sympathy to the sorrowing wife and sister and commend her to the loving saviors care.

Resolved that these resolutions be sent to our sister, a copy be furnished to the Clarion for publication.

UNION TOWNSHIP

CHARLES E. TUPPER, farmer, Section 32, P. O. Eldridge, was born in Iowa County, Mich., in 1842, son of Myron and Milissa Maine Tupper. Was married in 1860, to Miss Orange Lumbert, daughter of Jabez and Eliza Lumbert. Has five children - Calvin, Cora, Dora, Violet and Rosetta Tupper. Came to Kansas in 1871, located on the farm where he now resides. Owns 160 acres of land. Located in the township one year before its organization. Is a member of the School Board; has served three years. Was in the war of the Rebellion. Enlisted in 1864 in the Ninth Regiment Michigan Volunteers, Company H. Was mustered out at the close of the war, in 1865.

Obituary. Mt. Hope Mentor, 5 Jul 1895, page 1 column 4.

Died-Sunday. June 30, 1985, at her home south east of Mt. Hope, Mrs. Orange Tupper, aged 65 years, Deceased had been ailing for some time and death seemed to have been caused by a general breaking down of the constitution. The funeral services were conducted Monday at the house by Rev. McCormick and she was then laid away in the Colwich Cemetery, followed by a large procession of friends who came to pay their last tributes of friendship.

Orange Lumbert Tupper was born April 28, 1839 in the state of New York, married to Charles Tupper in September 1861 at Odessa, Michigan, removed from Michigan to Kansas in March 1871, died at noon June 30, 1895, aged 56 years, 2 months and 2 days. Mrs. Tupper was the mother of seven children, five of whom survive her. She was a devoted and loyal wife and mother, a true friend and helper in time of sickness and need and will be sadley missed by everyone who knew her.

She talked to the family as long as she could speak, and left words council and advice for each one of her children, saying, "I can't see you but I can see my way clear and bright- I am all right, don't weep for me - O! I am so happy." her eyes closed and the breath stopped, a peaceful happy smile rested on her face and she was gone to her last long sleep. The funeral sermon was preached at her home by Rev. Frank McCormick, then by request, was the burial service of the Woman's Relief Corps, for which she was a faithful member. She was laid to rest beside their two children in the Hyde Cemetery. The bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of their many friends.
