Date: Sun, 30 Apr 2000 09:20:41 -0600
From George Nye:
Peter & Mary moved to St. Mary's Township in 1812 from Chezzetcook and resided at the Forks of St Marys River. Ref: St Marys Township book.
The descent of Andrew Crawford Jordain was worked out by John DeCoste of Aylesford, N.S. from PANS records.
One of Peter Jordain & Margaret Crawford's daughter's Mary Jordain (m) William Bent Esq. of Sherbrooke, he was a Pres. Church Elder & Justice of the Peace in Sherbrooke. [ They are ancestors of mine] I am sure Margaret (Farley Fraser) has heard of him.
Peter & Margaret were (m) at St. Matthews Pres. Church in Halifax, by Capt. Hamilton. J.P. on 19 Jan 1791. both from Chezzetcook. [MacRood informs me that Peter Jordain spoke French and appears as French in the census]

From: Mac Rood
Peter Jordain and his family moved from Chezzetcook in Halifax county to the new St. Marys River settlement in Guysborough County in 1812. In early town records, he served as surveyor of highways, overseer of the poor and fence viewer in 1814. In 1824, he was appointed constable.

From: Flo (Brown )Jordan as compiled by Blake Conrad:
Peter Jordan, with a family of 3 sons and 3 daughters, moved from Chezzetcook to St. Mary's Township in 1812, Ref: Township Record Book.

Note: Variations on family name: Jordan, Jordon, Jordain, Jaurdon, Jourdain, Jaurdon

From Margaret Orr Nutter Alexander as told to her by Frank Jordan: Frank feels that the Jordans were Huguenots from St. Bartholomew's, Paris, France. They fled to the Channel Islands, to England, then to Ireland and stayed there for a period of years and then came to Nova Scotia and the USA. They were Empire Loyalists and fled the United States during the Revolutionary War.

From Margaret Orr Nutter Alexander: Dr. George Nye of Alberta, feels that the Jordan's went to the United States and lived in Virginia before fleeing the Revolutionary War.

Peter married 1 Margaret CRAWFORD on 19 Jan 1791 in St. Matthews Presbyterian Church, Halifax.

From George Nye: Margaret Crawford was either the niece, cousin or daughter of a Capt. Edward Crawford. Margaret Crawford 794 went to St. Matthew's Pres. Church in Halifax, as did Capt. Edward Crawford of Chezzetcook. However, Capt. Edward Crawford's daughter, Margaret, married George Peter Schoffelburg in 1805. POSSIBLY Margaret 794 was a neice of Capt. Edward Crawford or a cousin [our Margaret 794 was from Chezzetcook when she married but it is highly unlikely she was born in Chezzetcook. We have not been able to connect our Margaret to the United Empire Loyalitst family of Capt. Edward Crawford of Chezzetcook].

They had the following children:

  2 F i Elizabeth JORDAIN 1, 2 was born on 6 Jul 1792.
+ 3 M ii Archibald JORDAIN
+ 4 M iii Peter JORDAIN Jr.
+ 5 F iv Mary Eliza JORDAIN
+ 6 M v Andrew Crawford JORDAIN
+ 7 F vi Sarah JORDAIN
  8 F vii Margaret JORDAIN 1 was born 2 in Jun 1811.
        Margaret married John MCINTOSH.
