1 At WFA Genealogy Report George-1 Willard for The Willard Family Association of America, Inc., it is noted that while Pope lists George Willard and Dorothy Dunster as the parents of Dr. Jacob Willard, Phelps lists Jacob's father as Daniel Willard. Gordon Green also traces Dr. Jacob Willard's ancestry via George Willard, as does James Savage who further states that Daniel and Esther (Matthews) Willard had no issue. However, George Willard's demand for land in Maryland names only two sons: Daniel and Samuel.

3 A number of researchers record the death of William Willard as Dec. 5, 1474 without reconciling his approximate birth date of 1470 or accounting for his wife and 2 children when he would have been only 4 years old. Presumably, the death date is recorded on a tombstone or other church record in Benchley. But this individual is unlikely to have been the father of Richard Willard - more likely to have been the grandfather.
