FOOTNOTES
In a letter dated Sep. 11, 1985, from Edith Mae (Hardmeyer) Spiller--daughter of Florence Knox (Johnson) Hardmeyer--to William Dawson Johnson, Jr.: "My mother was born in Brooklyn, NY of American parents descended from Dutch stock. ...My mother mentioned her early years only a little. They lived on a farm in Richmond Hill. Her mother liked to have company all the time and would always have a beautiful white table cloth and nice things as best she could."
Marriage Certificate
The transcribed birth record of Reuben Henry Johnson lists his mother as Sarah H., while the 1850 census lists her as Sarah B. and the records at The Church of The Latter Day Saints list her as Sarah D.
Ephraim E. Johnston is listed in the NJ censuses for 1850 and 1860. Bridgeton is his place of residence on Reuben Henry's transcribed birth record where his name is recorded as E. Elruer Johnson. The birth record lists Reuben's mother as Sarah H., while the 1860 census lists her as Sarah B. At familysearch, there are two records that list Reuben's father as E. Elmer Johnson and his mother as Sarah D. Since the Birth Certificate for Reuben is a typed transcript, it may have made the error of recording his middle name of "Elmer" as "Elruer". Since two of Reuben's sons have the name "Elmer", we've decided that the preponderance of evidence suggests that Ephraim Johnson's middle name is "Elmer".
In a letter dated Mar. 7, 1986 from Donald Elmer Johnson (son of Elmer Embury Johnson) to William D. Johnson Jr.
In a letter dated Sep. 11, 1985, from Edith Mae (Hardmeyer) Spiller to William Dawson Johnson, Jr., she says "I have always believed that my father's name was Joseph Grover Hardmeyer but when I sent for my birth certificate he was listed as Grover. Not sure now if that was his first or middle name."
