Her dad worked building the bridge.
That was old hwy. 46 a gravel road.
The creek enters the Tallapoosa river.
After the construction of the new
46 highway, folks called that the
Sears road. For many years it was ok.
Then when it went down, folks called
it the Hump Back bridge.
Mrs. Cole had a small pond not far
down the road, near where it entered
the new highway 46. Mrs. Cole was my
1st and 2nd grade teacher. Her husband
owned Cole Motor Co. in Heflin, Al..
William Jessie Cole b.11 Jan 1893 d. 21 Mar 1968.
He was the son of Henry Cole who was born in Randolph Co., Al..
Jess Cole married Nathlee Cook, b. 15 Dec 1900 d. 16 Jan 1974.
Both rest in Heflin Cemetery. Son Roy is also burried there.
Uncle Eston worked for Mr. Jess Cole
as a mechanic.
My first car was bought from Cole Motor Co..
Uncle Eston and dad (orvel) later owned and operated
a garage which later was known as Kiker's store. Kiker's store was later on bought by the Wright family.
Later, Uncle Eston work for the school bus garage in Heflin.
The Richardson girls married the Johnson boys.
Uncle Eston was more like a dad than an uncle.
Now the old bridge is rough and it has a new name "the Hump Back bridge"
