47. John JOHNSON (Benjamin³³, Benjamin¹², William², Henry¹) was born in 1784 in Goochland Virginia.

General Notes: The marriage license of John Johnson and Mary Pace is on record at the Goochland Circuit Court. Robert Pace gave his permission.

John was appointed guardian to his younger siblings in 1815 Chancery Cause when his father died. His mother Rachel was already dec'd by this time.

There is a Chancery Case 1872-007 where John's estate is divided among his children. The children's spouses are listed in this case.

John married Mary PACE, daughter of Robert PACE and Unknown, on 22 Dec 1808 in Goochland Va. Mary was born in 1788 in Goochland Va.

General Notes:

Benjamin Johnson was born about 1800 in Goochland County, son of Benjamin and Rachel Pace Johnson.

In 1815 we find Benjamin along with his brothers and sisters in a Chancery Cause at the State Library of Virginia: Johnson Heirs vs Johnson Heirs 1815-007.

In Goochland County Circuit Court 18 September 1815 John Johnson, James Shepherd and Rachel his wife, Augustine Shepherd and Ann his wife which said John Rachel and Ann are children and Heirs of Benjamin Johnson dec'd.

Elizabeth Johnson, Susanna H. Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Steven Johnson, Maryann Johnson and Eliza Johnson infants and under the age of 21 years and also heirs of the said Benjamin Johnson dec'd.

On December 23, 1823 Benjamin Johnson married Frances Terry, daughter of Joseph William Terry and Sarah Gooch in Goochland County Virginia. Marriage records 1794-1853 received and recorded January 19, 1824. Page 36.

Benjamin and Frances lived in Goochland and raised their family. Although all of his father's land was sold in the 1815 Chancery Cause, in 1829 Benjamin purchased land from the heirs of Joseph Pace. His sister Mary Johnson Pace and John Johnson who had also married a Pace were parties to this deed. This land adjoined the land of his brother John. The deed is recorded as follows:

March 1, 1829. Robert Pace, William Pace & Lucy his wife, Jane Pace, George W. Pace, John C Pace, & James Pace of the county of Goochland, Joseph Pace of the county of Fluvanna, Jese Pace and Christian his wife & Ann Pace of the County of Fluvanna & Jese Houtchins & Susanna his wife of Garrard County in the state of Kentucky & Mary Ann Pace wife of John C. Pace to Benjamin Johnson of the County of Goochland. The said Robert, William & Lucy, Jane, George W., John C. Joseph, James, Jese Pace & Christian, Ann & Jese Houtchins & Susanna heirs of the late Joseph Pace dec'd & the said Mary Ann sell to Benjm. On 4 July, 1837 Benjamin and Frances Johnson of Goochland Co. parties of the first part and William Terry party of the second part for the sum of $112.00 paid to William Terry for land containing 122 acres. DB 71, pg 206. Goochland County.

In 1837 Benjamin also purchased 177 acres of land from William Ford. Land lying on Elk Branch and Hughes Mill on Byrd Creek.

On April 17, 1843 DB 33, pg 243 Indenture between John Omohundro and Eliza his wife of Fluvanna Co. of the first part and Benjamin Johnson of Goochland Co. party of the other part. Benjamin paid $500.000 for 70 acres of land lying in Goochland County bounded by lands of James Glass dec'd and Sally Tyler, James Shepherd, the lands of the said Benjamin Johnson and Joseph Terry.

10 March, 1855 Benjamin Johnson sold for the sum of $80.75 two and a half acres more or less tract or parcel of land tgo James I.P. Fleet near Walter Seals Mill in Goochland County.

16 June, 1866 Benjamin Johnson deeds with love and affection 38 acres of land lying in Goochland County to his daughter Sarah (Sallie) Johnson Marks and her husband Griffin. DB 40 Pg 338-339 Goochland Courthouse.

September 1871 Benjamin Johnson deeds with love and affection 38 acres of land lying in Fluvanna County to his son George S. Johnson and his wife Mary R. Shepherd. DB 20 Pg 461-462 Fluvanna Courthouse.

Frances Terry Johnson died about 1860 and Benjamin went to live with his daughter Rachel Frances Davis and her family until his death sometime after 1870.

Recent DNA tests between the descendants of Benjamin and his brother John Johnson showed a perfect match.
