Expressing appreciation to Ben R. Johns,
Jr. for his 43 years of service to the City of Richmond
and wishing him much happiness and contentment in his future
endeavors.

Whereas,
Ben R. Johns, Jr. has served the City of Richmond
as a member of City Council, the City Planning Commission and
the Board of Zoning Appeal for a total of 43 years; and
Whereas,
Mr. Johns was first appointed to the Board of
Zoning Appeals in 1955 and served from 1955 to 1960 and from
1962 to 1998 and was its Chairman from 1965 to 1998; and
Whereas,
from 1960 to 1962, Mr. Johns served as a member
of City Council and was City Council’s representative on the
City Planning Commission during his term; and
Whereas,
from 1976 to 1983, Mr. Johns served on the City
Planning Commission as the representative of the Board of Zoning
Appeals; and
Whereas,
Mr. Johns’ experience as an architect has greatly
assisted the Board of Zoning Appeals, the city Planning Commission
and City Council in understanding complex technical design issues;
and
Whereas,
Mr. Johns has earned the respect and admiration
of the many members of Boards and Commissions who have served
with him, as well as the City staff who have worked with him;
and
Whereas,
the City of Richmond has benefited greatly from Mr. Johns’
insight, integrity, objectivity, wisdom and fairness during
his many years of service; and
Whereas,
Mr. Johns’ has left an indelible legacy which
will endure for many years to come.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF RICHMOND:
That the Council of the City of Richmond hereby expresses
its sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Ben R. Johns,
Jr. for his 43 years of dedicated service and invaluable
contributions to the City of Richmond and wishes him much happiness
and contentment in his future endeavors.
