The Wid made application for pension in 1844

and a Bible was sent to this Office to be filed in evidence.

Sophia (Ashley) Smith (wife of Daniel Smith) signed her name with an "X". In a sworn statement dated 28 Dec 1845 she states that: ". . . the Register of her Births and Marriages are in the handwriting of her husband who is absent, and who has not been at home for three years and his affidavit cannot be had."
