From Lancaster Pike, Hwy 272, west on Spring Valley Road and northwest on River Road.
Cemetery is on corner of River Road and Slate Hill Road. Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church is on down the road to the west on River Road.
from Delta, take Cemetery Hill Road north to Griffith Road. Cemetery can also be reached reached from Highway 74, then head south on Cemetery Hill Road and turn onto Griffith Road. Cemetery is on corner of Cemetery Hill and Griffith roads.
Buried here: Joseph A. G. and Jane (Clark) Mitchell and many of their children; Andrew and Catherine (Alexander) Dinsmore; many related families.
From Martins Ferry take Hanover Street heading west, then right onto North 6th Street, and left at Carlisle Street for .2 miles. Slight right at Colerain Pike for 2 miles, then 1st left onto OH State Highway 647 north/Colerain Pike. After 1.8 miles, take a sharp right at County Road 4/Glenns Run (Main St.), then 2nd left onto Treadway Road.
Buried here: James and Margaret (Clark) Alexander, George and Elizabeth (Porter) Mitchell, and many of the Alexander and Mitchell children
Town of Newville no longer exists. From Butler in Worthington Twp, take Ohio State highway 95 northeast through Malabar State Park, and turn left on Covert Road. Cemetery is just off the road side. This is an old Revolutionary War Cemetery.
Buried there: Sadie Alexander (related???). Many stones unreadable.
Across Ohio State Highway 95 from Newville Cemetery – instead of turning left on Cover Road, turn right.
Buried here: Robert and Sophia (Stimeley) Alexander, Harriet (Alexander) and F. M. Darling and many of their children and grandchildren.
From Butler go northeast on Ohio state highway 95 , then right onto County Route 375. Stay left where road “Y”, so now on Pleasant Hill Rd. (still Co. Rte. 375). As road swings left up the hill, you will see the Applegate’s blue two-story house next to the left side of the road. Charles and Linda Applegate now own the farm that once belonged to Peter Alexander and his wife Jane Mitchell.
This is Private Land, so knock on the door and ask permission to cross their land to the back area of the property, down among the trees. That is where the stone walled Alexander family cemetery is located. Wear sturdy shoes and jeans, as there are often weeds and bushes to walk through and you have to climb over the waist-high wall to get into the cemetery.
Buried here: Peter and Jane (Mitchell) Alexander, and 5 grandchildren: Nancy M. died 7 Oct 1867; children of R. & S. Alexander: George d. 1853, Jane d. 1856, and Mary Ann d. 1958; child of M. & E. Alexander: James A. d. 1855.
From town of Washington in Washington Twp, take Ohio State Highway 303 southeast (Pleasant Hill Road) to where it joins Tout Road. You will see the church and cemetery next to the highway. Alternate route if near Malabar State Park: Ohio St. Hwy 95 to Ohio St. Hwy 603 and turn north, then east on St. Hwy 303.
