Researchers note: John McIntosh was already dead in January 1902. I searched for the death of Matthew Banks McIntosh b. 1884. There were no entries listed for anyone with the middle name of Banks either in the marriage or death indexes. Matthew was not such a common first name so I checked all possible marriage and death entries for people with this name. I checked marriage entries up until 1930 without locating the correct person. I also checked several death entries again without locating the correct person.

It looks as though Matthew did not die in Scotland. I checked all variant spellings of the surname and a wide age range.

Finally, I have not been able to locate a death entry for John McIntosh. I searched between 1896 and 1902 using an age range of 10 years either side of his birth year. Some entries I checked covered an even wider age range, however, they were for people who lived in the areas John's family had lived so I thought they were worth checking. All variant spellings were checked. In total there were 24 possible entries during this period.

It looks as though John either died outside Scotland or that his age given at the time of death is outside the age range used during this search. I based his age on the fact he was noted as 25 years old in 1870 when he married. The search for John's death covered the whole of Scotland.
