SALLYE M. JEAN

     1921 - 2002


Sallye Maxine Futch Jean, 80, of Marion, La., died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in Hot Springs.

Born Aug. 27, 1921, in Marion, she was the daughter of Cornelius and Josie Futch. She attended college in Natchitoches, La., was the first female to fly over the Cane River, and called the first commercial flight for Chicago and Southern (now Delta) airlines into Little Rock. She started her own line of private branded skin care products in 1949 and was the owner of La Bellissima gift shop in Hot Springs. She was a member of First Methodist Church, the UMW, the Athena Club, the El Dorado Service League and the Hot Springs Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Binford Jean; a daughter, Ada Elizabeth Jean; a sister, A. V. Frady Bennett; and two brothers, Theos and Dewey Futch.

Survivors include a daughter, Sally Jo Jean Barlow of Houston; a son, Grady Jean Jr. of Concord, Calif.; and four sisters, Aline Ross of El Dorado, Doris Maroney of Strong, and Peggy and B. R. White of Marion.

Interment will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Arlington Cemetery on Saturday with a reception following at El Dorado Golf and Country Club.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Hot Springs Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1100 Central Ave., Hot Springs, Ark., 71901.
