Rosalie Lelievre Jean, 88, of Cordova died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Collins-Burke Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Day Cemetery in Oakman. The Rev. Alex Obernader will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home Parlor in Jasper.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Cecil Pearson Jean; her mother and father, Lila Crownover and Louie Francois Lelievre, Jr. and Thomas W. Lelievre and an infant daughter.
She is survived by a son, Cecil Phillip Jean of Cordova; one sister, Ann L. Kellum of Vestavia, and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was an elementary school teacher in the Walker County School Systems for 30 years. She began her career in a two-room school at Slate Creek, then spent four years teaching grades one through three at Providence. Her last 25 years were in the classroom at Oakman Elementary, where she was a beloved first grade teacher.
An out-going, people loving person, Jean belonged to the Culture Quest Club and in fact was named one of Alabama's gracious ladies in 1954-55. She was later a member of the Oakman Dramatic Club.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Long Memorial Methodist Church in Cordova or the Walker County Humane Society.
