Mrs. Bessie Eley Shelnutt, 80, of Hogansville, died June 6, 1988 in the Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke, Alabama.
Mrs. Shelnutt was born June 27, 1907 in Heard County, daughter of the late James and Doshie Bledsoe Eley. She had lived in Hogansville since 1939 and was a retired employee of Uniroyal Corporation with 35 years of service. Mrs. Shelnutt was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville where she was a member of the choir, the WMU and served
as the assistant pianist. She was a member of the first graduating class of Centralhatchee High School.
Services were held June 17 in the chapel of McKibben funeral Home with the Rev. R. C. Prescott and the Rev. Monroe Driver officiating.
Interment was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
Pallbearers were Blake Shelnutt, Elmon Birdsong, Roy Wright, Deward Jackson, Ed McFarland and Joe Spinks.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Tucker of Hogansville; son, Freeman Shelnutt of Rome; sisters, Mrs. Junior Dorough of Newnan, Miss Connie Eley of Marietta; brother, J. B.
Eley of Douglasville; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
