Betty May moved to Hamburg at age 12. She went to Tabor College and taught school 6 yrs. Her daughter Velma still has the school bell she used to call students to class. The school was east of the main highway that went between Sidney and Hamburg.
During her youth she went to the World's Fair at St. Louis, MO.
She sewed well, loved her flower garden, grew her own vegetables, and raised chickens. Cataracts in her later years caused blindness until they were removed a few years before she died of a stroke. Edrei Aretus Chapman is Summoned by Death Edrei Aretus Chapman, 74, a native of Missouri but a resident of California for the past 24 years and of Anaheim for 22 years, died early this morning after an illness of several months duration. He is survived by his wife; one son R.M. Chapman of Calipatria, CA, a daughter, Mrs. A.E. Klassen of Wasco, CA, ' a brother, Byron Chapman of Palmyra, Neb., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o'clock from the Hilgenfeld Funeral home. The Rev. S. Frank Hilgenfeld will officiate at the chapel and the Royal Neighbors lodge will have charge of the services at the grave side. Burial will be made in Loma Vista cemetery.
