1. Benjamin Chapman
(1) died on 22 JUN 1786 in Southington, CT. (2) Page 322 of the FW Chapman
book states" The descendants of Rev Benjamin Chapman are
unable to give any account of his parentage. The prevailing belief
among them, however, is that he originated from Say-Brook. .......
The following facts in regard to the subject of this brief sketch
have been obtained from the records of the church in Southington,
and from his grandson, the Hon. Reuben A.Chapman, of Springfield,
Mass. He graduated at Princeton, in the class of 1754, and was
ordained and installed at Southington, (then the Third Church
in Farmington, , Conn,.) March 17, 1756. He officiated as the
pastor of that church upward of eighteen years, being dismissed
September 28, 1774. He continued, after his dismission, to reside
in Southington until his decease, a period of nearly twelve years.
He married Miss Abigail Riggs, of Derby, and had, but her, eight
children.
Mr. Chapman was esteemed by his cotemporaried, as a sound and
useful minister of the gospel. "
He was married to Abigail Riggs.
