(Source: Copy of original marriage document in New Jersey State Archives, Trenton, NJ.)

Know all men by these present, that William Till of the City of Philadelphia, in the Province of Philadelphia Shipwright, and Joseph Hoeld of the City of Burlington, carpenter, are holden and do stand justly indebted unto the Honorable John Hamilton Esg. President of His Majesty's Council of New Jersey in the sum of five hundred pounds of Lawful Money of New Jersey to be paid to his said John Hamilton Esg., his Successors or Assigns, For the which Payment well and truly to be made and done, we do bind our selves, our Heirs, Executors, and Administrators and every of them Jointly and severally firmly by these present, sealed with our Seal, Dated this twenty-fourth Day of October Anno Domini One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty Six.

The Condition of this Obligation is such, That whereas the above bounden William Till hath obtained Licence of Marriage for himself of the one Party, and for Damarus Douglas of Trenton, of the other Party. Now if it shall now hereafter appear that they the said William Till & Damarus Douglas have any Lawful Let of Impediment, of Precontract, Affinity, or Consanguinity, to hinder their being joined in the Holy Band of Matrimony, and afterward their living together as Man and Wife, then this Obligation to be void, or else to stand and remain in full Force and Virtue.

Sealed and Delivered in William Till
The Presence of Joseph Hoeld
