Unverified Information: based on family history and stories
(1) Joseph had brother in France.

(2) Owned vineyard in France, fairly wealthy. Vineyard located in LaSalle province, near border with Switzerland (possibly Alsace-Lorraine near Germany).

(3) Had daughter (or possibly sister) in France who joined order of Catholic nuns where she stayed while Joseph was in U.S. Stories as to her becoming pregnant.

(4) Joseph returned to France, placing Emil (son) in Saint Peter's Orphanage in Newark (checked, not listed in orphanage records) while he was gone. Returned to U.S., lived with son and his wife. Committed suicide in New York City possibly due to illness between 1890 and 1900. Aunt Ruthie states she was no more than 10 years old when Joseph died. Ruth was born in 1890.  May have located Joseph in Woodland Cemetery, Newark, date  of death 1891.

(5) Took in orphan and raised him as son. Son moved to Staten Island, NY, and died without children.
