The WATTS lineage in the Baltimore city area seems to go back much further, perhaps to the late 1600s and earlier. Some of the other prominent early Maryland families that have connection to the WATTS family through marriage include the STANSBURY (also spelled STANBURY, and in Europe, STARNBOROGH) family, the WINTERODE / WENDEROTH family (WENDEROTH was the original German name, apparently anglicized to WINTERODE), and EAGLESTONE (also spelled EAGLESTON) family. Other geographical connections include Carroll County (Maryland), Pennsylvania, and ultimately, Germany and England.
My connection to the WATTS family begins with my grandmother, Anna Elizabeth WATTS (1905-1980), daughter of Cardiff Tagart WATTS (1875-1939) and Grace C. ROWLEY (born in Porter, Niagara County, New York in March 1880, died in Maryland, on 1965. Grace Rowley WATTS was the daughter of William Rowley (born in Canada in 1838, died in Alexandria, Virginia in February 1915), a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Married three times and widowed twice, William Rowley was the father of nine children and fought in the Civil War. Cardiff WATTS was the son of Asbury WATTS (1835-1917) and Amanda Elizabeth WINTERODE (1846-1917). More details coming soon. In the meantime, use the WATTS family tree to trace the earlier WATTS family history.
