This Peter is  a proven son of Jacob, Jr. and a grandson of the immigrant Jacob.  This line, with descendants through Mark Barnhart and John David Barnhart, is proven beyond doubt with much documentation. 

Peter sold to the Hocking Township District No. 3 school directors in 1841, a small tract of land in Section 8.  According to the description of the tract, it must have stood near the banks of Hunters Run, a short distance north of the Crumley Road.  There is mentioned in an early Lancaster newspaper a Brumfield School.  This may have been that school. (From:  Crossroads and Fence Corners;  Historical lore of Fairfield County,  Charles R. Goslin; The Fairfield Heritage Association, p. 162).  

Peter is buried in the East Union Cemetery in Hocking  Township,  Fairfield County, Ohio.  We have not found the resting place of his wife,  Maria(h) Elizabeth as yet.  Jim Kirk has been working diligently on this, and so far, we only have a hint.  We do not even know her maiden name for sure.  We have not been able to find a single document showing this.  I think that she was probably a Zimmerman, as the Zimmerman family figured somewhat prominently in the early Barnhart history, and the Zimmerman family, living near the Barnharts was a large family.  But this is all pure speculation.
