Absalom and Elizabeth Autrey and Their Descendants, With a Section on Thomas Norris

CHAPTER V

John Brown L. and Lucinda (Autrey) Mitchell

Lucinda Autrey, the third child of Absalom and Elizabeth (Norris) Autrey, was born 27 October 1829 in Perry County, Alabama.  She married first John Brown L. Mitchell 3 November 1847 in Perry County, Alabama.  They were married by Bird Griffin, J.P., who was Lucinda's uncle.  John was born the 4 November 1826 in Perry County, Alabama, the son of John and Nancy (Wilson) Mitchell.

The Autrey and Mitchell families lived a few miles from each other in northern Perry County, Alabama.  They were members of the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church in the Morrowville Community in the 1840's.

The Mitchell's were farmers.  John B. L. Mitchell's father, John Mitchell, had moved from Kentucky to Alabama about the time that it became a state.  At about the same time, the Wilson's, his mother's family, moved from Chester County, South Carolina to Perry County, Alabama.  John Mitchell and Nancy Wilson married in Perry County, Alabama on 17 December, 1822.  They bought four hundred eighty acres of land in this area in Alabama.

John B. L. and Lucinda Mitchell moved to Louisiana with the other members of the Autrey family.  John Mitchell bought land in Union Parish and farmed there.

They both died in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana.  John died 17 March 1879 and Lucinda died 22 September 1901.  They were buried in the Henry Cemetery, Hico, Louisiana.

They had twelve children:  John Abby, Mary Jane, Nettie Malda, Calvin Marion, James J., Cornelius Howard, Robert Gill, Joseph L., Willis B., Delila, Eugenia, and Martha.
