Bird Griffin and Georgia Ann (Moncrief) Autrey
Bird Griffin and Mary Olevia (Hughes) Autrey

Bird Griffin Autrey, fourteenth child of Absalom and Elizabeth (Norris) Autrey, was born 27 May 1847 in Perry County, Alabama.  He married first Georgia Ann Moncrief, daughter of Caleb Jackson and Mary Ann (Knight) Moncrief, 22 May 1868 in Union Parish, Louisiana.  She was born about 1846 near Rocky Mount, Meriwether County, Georgia.  She was a sister of Mary Jane Moncrief who married Charlie Henry Autrey, BirdGriffin's younger brother.  She died about 1888 and her grave has not been located.

Bird Griffin Autrey enlisted in the Confederate Army in July 1864.  He served eight months in Company J, of the Twenty-Eighth Louisiana Infantry.  He was involved in the operations near Morganaza, Louisiana.  He was discharged 17 May 1865 near Alexandria, Louisiana. He applied for a Confederate Pension in Texas on 30 August 1913 and it was allowed 1 December 1913.  After his death, his widow received the pension.

Bird G. Autrey was a farmer.  On 24 March 1873, he bought ten acres of land in Section 28 of Lincoln Parish, Louisiana, from his mother's estate.  On 26 February 1873 he sold ninety acres, including the above ten acres, to Charles Henry Autrey.

Bird Griffin and Georgia Ann Autrey joined the Fellowship Baptist Church in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana on 15 June 1878.  Bird Griffin and Georgia Ann (Moncrief) Autrey had seven children:  David J., Absalom W., Mary Lucinda, Malcomb L., Cora L., John Henry and Jeremiah "Jery" Myre.

Bird Griffin and Mary Olevia (Hughes) Autrey

Bird Griffin Autrey married second Mrs. Mary Olevia "Levy" Hughes, daughter of  ________ and Mary Jane (Liner) Jawers, 3 May 1891 in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana.  She was born in March 1855 in Calhoun County, Alabama.

They moved to Coryell County, Texas in 1892.  John R. Hughes, son of Mary Olevia by a previous marriage, moved with them.  He was born in November 1880 in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana.

She died of Bright's Disease 13 March 1924 in Gatesville, Texas.  She was buried in Little Flock Cemetery in Gatesville, Texas.  He had eye surgery 2 March 1922. He died of pneumonia 4 March 1922 in Waco, Texas at the home of his son, Jery M. Autrey.  He was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Gatesville, Texas.

Bird Griffin and Mary Olevia (Hughes) Autrey had no children.
