Thomas Jefferson and Cynthia Elizabeth (Heard) Autrey

Thomas Jefferson and Mary  "Mollie" Henrietta Oliver (Wise) Autrey

Thomas Jefferson Autrey, thirteenth child of Absalom and Elizabeth (Norris) Autrey, was born 14 May 1845 in Perry County, Alabama.  He married first Cynthia Elizabeth Heard, daughter of Thomas Franklin and Parthenia (Davis) Heard, 19 November 1865.  The marriage year is not clear on the court record.  This writer thinks they married in 1865 due to the date of his Confederate Army release and the date of birth of his first child, Lou Ella.  Cynthia was born 30 July 1848 in Alabama.  She and her family had moved from near Marion, Alabama to near Dubach, Louisiana.  She died 25 July 1884 and was buried in Fellowship Cemetery in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana.

A few days after his eighteenth birthday, Thomas Jefferson Autrey joined the Confederate Army. he enlisted 22 March 1863 at Vienna, Louisiana.  He served as a Private in Company E, Twelfth Louisiana Infantry.  His brothers, William Norris and Cornelius, also served in Company E.  This  company served in Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Georgia and North Carolina with General Joseph E. Johnston and General John B. Hood.  Thomas Jefferson fought in the siege of Jackson, Mississippi in July 1863, Operations against the Expedition from Vicksburg to Meridian, Mississippi in February and Mary 1864, in the Atlanta, Georgia Campaign from May to September 1864 and in the Battles of Franklin and Nashville, Tennessee in November and December 1864.  He was captured by the enemy at Franklin, Tennessee 17 December 1864 and was sent to Military Prison at Louisville, Kentucky in January 1865.  He was received 9 January 1865 at Camp Chase, Ohio.  He was sent to Richmond, Virginia where he was paroled.  He started home and the command surrendered before he reached home.

Thomas J. Autrey held the first reunion of Company E in October 1912 at his home in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. For at lest ten years these reunions were held annually in the home of the veterans of Company E according to R. J. Tabor, Company Commander.

On 24 March 1873, Thomas Jefferson inherited and bought land in Sections 21 and 28 of Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. In 1913 he still owned 81 acres of this land near Dubach, Louisiana.

Thomas J. and Cynthia Elizabeth (Heard) Autrey had nine children:  Lou Ella, Amanda Dorothy, Charles W., Sarah Viletta, Caldonia D., Susan Frances, William Penn, Edward Eugene, and Neil Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson and Mary  "Mollie" Henrietta Oliver (Wise) Autrey

Thomas Jefferson Autrey married second Mary Henrietta "Mollie" Oliver Wise 23 September 1884 in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana.  He died 21 December 1924 and she died 17 August 1955.  They were buried in Hamilton Memorial Cemetery, Dubach, Louisiana.

Thomas Jefferson and Mollie (Wise) Autrey had five children:  Floyd J., Infant, Collins R., Cynthia Cordia and Joe, born in Louisiana.
