CHAPTER XIV

ABSALOM R.  AND MARTHA ANN (AUTREY) REED

Martha Ann "Mattie" Autrey, twelfth child of Absalom and Elizabeth (Norris) Autrey, was born 18 September 1843 in Perry County, Alabama.  She married Abraham R. Reed 23 November 1873 in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana.  They were married by Reverend T. Standford the same day as her brother, Charlie Henry Autrey and Mary Jane Moncrief.

He was born 26 January 1842 in Kentucky.  He was the son of Jonas and Susan (Dykes) Reed.  His father served under General Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836 to help secure the freedom of Texas.

Abraham Reed was a farmer in Bowie County, Texas.  He and his first wife, Celia, were living there in 1869 when their son, Albert N. Reed, was born.

He died 10 December 1906 in Bowie County, Texas.  She died 23 December, 1923.  They had six children:  Sarah E., Susan Adealia, Spencer R., Ida, Abraham and Mitchell B.
