After this he went into business for himself, first in a small shop in Royal Oak? and then with one of his friends from Arnold-Powers on Telegraph Road near 11 Mile? Road.
He died on golf course while vacationing on Apr 11 1984 in Palmetto, GA. He and Mary Sue were traveling with her sister, June, and brother-in-law, Grady. They had all driven down to Georgia with John doing most of the driving so it was miraculous that he died when he wasn't driving. At the time they were living in Livonia MI.

She was a Secretary, Accounting, Huron-Portland Cement Co., National Gypsum between 1952 and 1970 in Detroit, MI. She resided 27226 Lawrence Drive between 1960 and 1972 in Dearborn Heights, MI. She resided 4934 Danbury in 1980 in Troy, MI. She resided 3439 Benjamin, Apt. 424 between 1980 and 1983 in Royal Oak, MI. She resided 18296 University Park Dr between 1983 and 1988 in Livonia, MI 48152. She resided 9250 Allen Road between 1988 and 1993 in Clarkston, MI at Allen Woods Group Home. 12. John Henry HARDCASTLE12 John was orphaned by age 3 and his only memory of his mother is that she was very sick in bed and then the next day she was no longer there. He vividly remembered the three children cooking what little food they had on an open fireplace. John wandered away from the house and was picked up by an older man in a buggy who took him home to live with he and his wife. Mr.& Mrs. Cannon (Cantrell?) never officially adopted John but they raised him like he was their own son. They had 5 other children but they were older and already established in their own homes. Mr. Cannon was a farmer and owned a country store in Defeated, TN in the Carthage area of Smith Cty. TN. At his death he left the store to John Henry. He was a Restaurant owner in Goodlettsville, Davidson County, TN.12 Blue Bird Restaurant was originally an ice cream parlor. After Mr. Hardcastle sold his Long Hollow Farm, they rented a house for a couple of years near Baker's Station (railroad sta.). Owner of parlor had died, family moved away. Mr. Hardcastle bought the place turned it into the Bluebird Restaurant, and added grocery section - did away with ice cream parlor. Later he bought the property of Dr. Robb who had died, built a stone 3 story bldg. Restaurant was on 2nd floor which was ground level, bedrooms & living quarters below & above, named Castle Inn. John Henry died after 1945.12
