These are the descendants of Hans Heinrich Stein and his wife Catharina Maria Dorothea Henrika Riemers.

Hans Heinrich Stein was born on 13 October 1813 at Oldesloe in the province of Schlesweig-Holstein in Prussia, the son of Jurgen Stein and Catharine Magdalena Hartz. As a young man, he left his native Prussia to begin a new life in the colony of South Australia.  Travelling as Hans Heinrich Riemers, he - along with his fiancees family - departed from Hamburg, Germany on 2 May 1849 and sailed via Rio de Janiero to finally reach Adelaide on 10 September 1849. The ship they sailed in was the Australia, owned and operated as a migrant transport by Godeffroy & Son.

Catharina Maria Dorothea Henrika Reimers who would become his wife, was born in about 1824 in the village of Tetlow, province of Mecklenberg in Germany. I am yet to discover their actual birth date, but she was the daughter of Hans Heinrich Reimers and Catharina Maria Margaretta Wegner. Hans Heinrich Reimers decided to move his family to South Australia, and did so in 1849, sailing aboard the Australia.

On 25 November 1849 Hans Heinrich Stein and Catharina Maria Dorothea Henrika Reimers were married in Adelaide. They set up home in the Adelaide hills near Callington. Five children were born after their arrival here. A farmer and gardener, Hans had a small plot of land at Bugle Ranges, and later moved down along Red Creek Road towards Hartley, where he lived until the end of his life.

 Hans died at Hartley, SA on 10 January 1881 at the age of 77. Caroline died on 20 March 1912 at Red Creek, aged 88. He is buried in the little Lutheran cemetery at Salem and she is buried at Nairne.

Little Carl lived only a short time. I believe he is more than likely buried in the old Lutheran burial ground at Klemzig.

Catherine married Johann Wilhelm Jacobsen at her father's home on the Red Creek Road almost to Hartley. Her husband was born in 1824 and born in Prussia. They had two children. They lived in St Vincent Street at Port Adelaide and later at Semaphore.

Dora married Edward Walter Morris and had three children:-

Anna married Carl Ernest Albert Gehrike, the son of Georg Gehrike, at her father's home on Red Creek Road near Hartley. Anna and Carl made their home in the Callington/Monarto area. They had three children.

Dorothea married Michael Nolan and lived in Nairne. They had at least three childen.

Dora married William James MacDonald in about 1910. They had two children and moved about the state, living for a time in Lameroo and later at Nairne.

Dietrich married Josepha Marie Braendler, the daughter of Johann Joseph & Phillipine Braendler, at the home of Mr & Mrs Braendler at Monarto. Dietrich purchased land next to that of his father on Red Creek Road at Hartley.

Josepha Braendler was born in 1856 in Bresslau Stadt, Schlesein, Prussia.  She arrived in South Australia as an infant with her parents.  She died on 28 May 1929 at the family home at Red Creek and is buried at Salem with Deitrich. They had 10 children.

Celia married Harry Dudley Wyncoll. They lived at Rose Park, Murray Bridge, Verdun, Pt Elliott and at Pinaroo. There were 5 children. Harry died at Mt Barker on 24 August 1965. I am yet to discover where they are buried.

Dulcie married Leslie Rudolph Lindner at Murray Bridge on 25 March 1937.

Nita married Matthew John Williams at Murray Bridge on 30 August 1937.

Benjamin married Emmily Estate Sando at the Methodist Church in Norwood. Emmily was the daughter of William Sando and Ellen Boelke of Stepney. The family lived in the Stepney and Payneham areas for a number of years. There were nine children in the family.

Victor married Mavis Elaine Gowland at Maughan Church in Adelaide. A few years later he enlisted in the army and served for three years in the 6th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps.

Sylvia married Dudley Carter Woodforde at the Congregational Church in Kings Park.

Gwendoline married Lawrence Max Gould Hannaford at Kings Park. She passed away in 1944 and her husband passed away in Pt Noarlunga in 1988. Gwendoline's husband was the brother of her sister Daphne's husband.

Daphne married Walter Raymond Hannaford at Kings Park. She married the brother of her sister Gwen's husband.

In 1942 Dorothy enlisted at Whyalla in the Royal Australian Air Force. She served 3 years in the 6th Service Flying Training School, attaining the rank of Aircraftswoman.

Dora married Johann Alfred Kutzer in the Lutheran Church at Salem, half way between Hartley and Callington.  They lived at Red Creek, Angaston and Murray Bridge. There were three children.

Elfrieda married Norman Adolph Christian at Murray Bridge. He passed away in 1979 but I haven't located her death record as yet.

Felix was first married to Hilda Sax at the Registry Office in Adelaide in 1912. They had one child. Hilda passed away in about 1916 and he married a second time in 1919 to Alma Pearl Hunt at his father's home in Payneham. Felix and Alma had one child. He married a third time to Esther May Norris in 1929, but there were no children in this marriage.

Edna married Reginald Isadore Cyril Hinton at Maughan Chruch in Adelaide.

Cyril married Doris Anetta Trehane Liddell in the Baptist Church Vestry in Adelaide in 1912. They lived at Edwardstown for most of their married lives, but for a time resided in Murray Bridge, Kent Town and Loxton. Doris was the daughter of William Anthony Liddell and Mary Elizabeth Tubb.

Irene married Johnathon Alexander Roy Martin at the home of her father in Netley. Her husband passed away at Ascot Park in 1963. Both are buried at Centennial Park Cemetery.

Lionel married Edna Jean Elsie Skinner (living), daughter of William Henry Thomas Skinner and Clara Louisa Shepard.

Eunice married Donald Ross Rosewall and had three children:-

Elfrieda married James Stewart Hinton at Christ Church in Mile End. They made there home at West Croydon.

Julius Cecil married Kathleen Mary Emily Harman at St Francis Xavier Church in Adelaide. Kathleen died in 1958 and both are buried at Centennial Park.
