| John George Skinner
was born in about 1806 at Halsted in Kent. He married a girl named Sarah
Jane Smith (1816-1885) at Halsted on 12 October 1834. At this
time, I don't know who either of their parents were. On 10 June 1840, John Skinner and his family arrived at Pt Adelaide from London aboard the ship Orleana. The reason for his migration is not known, but there was a large family by the name of Smith on the same voyage - perhaps they were his wife's people and the young couple just simply decided to join them in their new venture. They had three children born in England before they departed for South Australia and another eight were born here. John died at Athelstone on 2 April 1884 and was buried in the Gorge cemetery. Sarah followed him a little over a year later and is also buried at the Gorge cemetery. If you think you may be related to anyone in this line, please email me.
