My niece's Marshall ancestors came from England, but I am unsure as to the exact location. Her earliest ancestor to arrive in South Australia did so in 1839 aboard the Singapore. If you think you may be connected to this family, I would love to hear from you via email. I am not 100% sure that I have this family correct. Thomas Marshall Thomas Marshall arrived in South Australia aboard the ship Singapore in 1839. He was a single man at the time, and married a woman who had arrived with the early settlers, Honour Williams. Honour was the daughter of Thomas Williams and Honor Clift Wallis. She was born in Crowan, Cornwall in 1815 and baptised at Crowan on 7 May 1815. Honour and her parents arrived in South Australia aboard the ill fated Java in 1840. They set up home at Willunga and eventually had a family of 10 children. Their children were:- | ||

Marshall born: 27 September 1842 Willunga, SA married: c. 1857 died: 15 March 1932 Crystal Brook, SA John married Mary Ann Collins. She was probably known to her family and friends as Ann, as she recorded her name as Ann on the births of 3 of her children and as Mary on the other two. The family seems to have moved about quite a bit, as shown by the birth records of their children:

Marshall born: 15 March 1862 Cockatoo Flat, SA married: 4 November 1882, Crafers died: 4 December 1941 Forest Range, SA William married Bessie Lawrence at Trial Hill Farm at Crafers in 1882. She was the daughter of Joseph Lawrence and Elizabeth Haines. Bessie was born on 12 March 1861 at Lyndoch and died at Forest Range on 4 April 1936. They had 6 children:

They had 4 children that I know of:- Mervyn Albert Marshall 1914-2000 Coincidentally, my second husband is descended from this line.

Hilda was the daughter of Alfred James Mabbett Mason and Honor Farnham of Lobethal. Hilda was born at Lobethal in 1892 and died at Charleston in 1954. Marshall born: 24 December 1896 Charleston, SA married: 24 October 1917 Forest Range, SA died: (unknown date) Florence married Sydney Ernest Pollard, son of Joseph Pollard and Susannah Walker of Mt Barker at Forest Range in 1917. Sydney was born at Mt Barker in 1891 and died at Macclesfield in 1919. I have not yet discovered Florence's death date. They had at least one child: Ernest William Pollard 1918-?

Marshall born: 12 January 1906 Forest Range, SA married: 9 September 1928 Maylands, SA died: 15 November 1900 Charleston, SA Kenneth married Pearl Elizabeth Libby at Maylands in 1928. I have not found a birth record in SA for Pearl, but believe her to have been born in about 1906. She died at Charleston on 17 February 1975 and both Pearl and Kenneth are buried in the Charleston cemetery. They had at least three children: Ross Marshall

Marshall born: 5 November 1843 Willunga, SA married: 16 October 1862 Willunga, SA died: 8 December 1916 Honor married William Henry Binney at the Wesleyan Chapel in Willunga. They lived at Rocky River in 1881 when Honor's sister married William's brother. Honor and William had no children of their own but did raise the childrend of Charles Jobson and Emma Pitt who both died quite young. Adopted (?) children were:- Mary Ann Jobson 1861-1950 - she kept
her original surname and later married George Edwin Vanstone at Rocky River
in 1892. They also took in Bertha Rose Marshall after her mother died.

Marshall born: 29 May 1846 Willunga, SA married: 8 December 1869 Willunga, SA died: (unknown date) Mary married Almond Sara at her father's home at Willunga in 1869. Almond was the son of George Sara and was born in 1846. He died at Pt Pirie in 1908 but I haven't discovered Mary's death details at this stage. Mary and Almond had at least 5 chidren. Marshall born: 1 November 1857 Willunga, SA married: 5 September 1883 Bordertown, SA married: 15 November 1900 Gawler, SA died: 3 November 1931 Andrew married Sarah Ann Milne, daughter of David Milne, at the Congregational Church in Bordertown in 1883. Sarah died at Bordertown in 1892. There were six children in this marriage. Andrew moved back to Gawler where he met and married his second wife Clara Eliza Broadbent. Marshall born: 1 November 1857 Willunga, SA married: 18 April 1885 Willunga, SA died: 24 March 1933 Eliza married Edward William Milne, son of David Milne and brother of Sarah who married Eliza's brother Andrew. They were married at the home of W.E. Martin of Willunga in 1885. Eliza died in 1933 and her husband died on 25 July 1912 at Bordertown. There were six children in this marriage:- Walter Thomas Milne 1887-1907
