Descendants of Samuel Rather

Generation One

1. Samuel1 Rather; born circa 1718 at Wales or Ireland;1 married Anne (--?--) before 1737;2 died 1774 at Dinwiddie County, Virginia.1

He emigrated circa 1738; to America.2 He appeared in a court record of on 13 Sep 1738 at Prince George County, Virginia; Trespass case of Hugh McDaniel vs. Henry Harper & Samuel Rather, dismissed.3 He and Anne appeared in the Prince George County court on 12 Jun 1739 as witnesses for Henry Harper, and each was paid 75 lbs of tobacco for 3 days at court.4 He received a land grant on 29 Jun 1739 at Prince George County, Virginia, of 219 acres, lying on the north side of Hatcher's Run, adjoining John Davis, Thomas Moore, John Banister, esq., William Mayes.5,6 On 12 Jan 1746 he was again granted land, being 303 acres lying on the south side of Stone Creek, in Prince George County.2

Anne (--?--). Her married name was Anne Rather.

The two known children of Samuel1 Rather and Anne (--?--) both born at Virginia were as follows:
