Wallace - George Leamon Rouse, 55, of Rt. 2, Rose Hill died Thursday night after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3 p. m. in Charity Methodist church by the Rev. Al Morris of Magnolia and the Rev. John Roberts, former pastor now of Faison. Burial will be in Clay Hill Cemetery.
He was a son of the late Alfred James and Annie Blanche Rouse.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Wilma Bostic Rouse of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Rouse Payne of Chapel Hill; one son, Charles Alford (Al) Rouse of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Aldred Robinson of the home; Mrs. Verda Wells of Wallace and Mrs. Vera Wilson of Wilmington; a brother, A. J. Rouse Jr. of Hyattsville, Md.
Visitation will be at Edgerton Funeral Home until one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Chester Rouse, Lester Caison, Norman Whaley, Theodore Rouse, Cecil Worsley and Boyce Fussell."

Horace Edwin Norris

Wallace -- Horace Edwin Norris, 50, of Route 2, Wallace died Monday in Veterans Hospital in Durham. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. from the Northeast Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. David Conert and Rev. Ray Garris. Burial was in the Cavenaugh Cemetery.
He was a native of Duplin County, a veteran of World War II, a machinist and was assistant supervisor for the J. P. Stevens Company of Wallace. He was past commander of American Legion Post 156, a member of the Woodmen of the World, a member of the Northeast Pentecostal FREE [sic] Will Baptist Church and was on the Board of Deacons.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carnell Raynor Norris of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Celia Norris Barnes of Raeford and Mrs. Annis Norris Weeks of Mexico City, Mex.; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Clark and Rubena Mobley, both of Wilmington and Mrs. Lura Register of Wallace; and two grandchildren."

Rose Hill -- Mrs. Aldred Rouse Robinson, 60, of Route 1, Rose Hill, died Saturday in James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington after a short illness.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at the Charity Methodist Church of which she was a member, by the Rev. Al Morris, pastor. Burial was in the Clay Hill Cemetery near the home.
She was a native of Duplin County and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Verda Wells of Wallace, Mrs. Vera Wilson of Wilmington and one brother, A. J. Rouse, Jr. of Hyattsville, Md."

Raleigh -- Reverend A. H. Carter, 82, died at his home in Raleigh Sunday night.
He was a Pentecostal Free Will Baptist minister for 54 years.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Zoar Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church by the Reverend W. H. Johnson, Dr. Howard Carter, Reverend A. C. Wheeler and Reverend David Conert. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Wells of Clinton, Mrs. Lois Keene of Willard, Mrs. Evelyn Crawford of Roanoke Rapids; six sons, Paul W. Carter of Militas, Calif., David Carter of Willard, Harry Carter of Hialeah, Florida, James Carter of Wallace, the Reverend Herbert Carter of Dunn, J. D. Carter of San Francisco, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Lonnie Humphrey of Kinston, Mrs. Lyde Mohns of Richlands, Mrs. Leona Miller of Wilmington; two brothers, Jasper Carter of Greensboro, Arthur Carter of Richlands; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild."

Wallace - Funeral services for Mrs. Norma Estelle Cavenaugh, 56, of Route 2, Wallace, who died Thursday, were conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Edgerton Funeral Chapel by the Rev. David Conert and the Rev. Edwin Carroll. Burial was in the Cavenaugh family cemetery.
A native of Duplin County she was a life-long resident of the Chinquapin community, a member of the Northeast Free Will Baptist Church and ladies' auxiliary. She had been supervisor of the Chinquapin elementary school lunchroom for many years.
Surviving are her husband, Joe Howard Cavenaugh; one daughter, Mrs. Loris Rouse of Jacksonville; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylor Cavenaugh of Wallace; two sisters, Mrs. Norman Hanchey and Mrs. Sam Hardison, Jr., both of Wallace; five brothers, James and Vernon of Wallace, Rifton of Rose Hill, Raymond of Richmond, Va., and Leon Cavenaugh of Washington, D. C.; three grandchildren."

Albert John Cavenaugh

"Prominent Wallace Businessman Dies After Short Illness

Wallace - Albert John Cavenaugh, 63, well-known businessman of Wallace, died Sunday morning in Sampson Memorial Hospital in Clinton after a short illness.
He was owner and operator of Cavenaugh Jewelers and owner of the Wallace Five and Dime Store in Wallace. He was a former member of the Wallace Board of Commissioners. He was a member of the Wallace Methodist Church where he had been a member of the church choir for many years.
He was past master of Wallace Masonic Lodge 595, a member of the Scottish Rights, a Shriner, and a member of the Wallace Lions Club. A lifelong resident of Duplin County, he was the son of the late John Stephens and Berta Blake Cavenaugh.
Survivors include his widow, the former Edith Covington; one son, Albert John Cavenaugh Jr. of Raleigh; two sisters, Mrs. Erchey Lanier and Mrs. C. P. Fussell Sr., both of Rose Hill.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 a. m. at the Wallace Methodist Church by his pastor, the Rev. George Ports assisted by the Rev. Charles Sparks, pastor of the Rose Hill Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Rockfish Cemetery in Wallace.
Visitation may be made at Edgerton Funeral Home until 9:30 Tuesday morning when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the service."

Burial was in the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery in Chinquapin. She was a member of the church. Surviving are her husband, Fennell Lanier; two daughters, Mrs. Rowland Stuart of Wilmington and Mrs. Edwin Futrelle of Chinquapin; six sisters, Mrs. Pete Wood and Mrs. Archie Lanier, both of Chinquapin, Mrs. Corbett Pierce of Wallace, Mrs. Henry Sanderson of Magnolia, Mrs. R. J. Holladay of Wilmington and Mrs. C. M. Prescott of Sumter, S. C.; one grandson. She was a native of Duplin County and a life long resident of the Chinquapin Community."

Wallace - Walter Guy Cavenaugh, age 61, of Rt. 2, Wallace, did Thursday night at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Cavenaugh was a farmer, and a native of Duplin County. He was a member of the Oakdale Penticostal [sic] Freewill Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Raleigh and Ellen Brown Cavenaugh.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Pinhook Church by the Rev. Bruce Bond and the Rev. Volney Bryan. Burial will be in the William Henderson Cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Pearl Batts Cavenaugh of the home; a duaghter, Miss Carolyn Cavenaugh of the home; three sons, Homer Guy, Leamond and Gene Cavenaugh, all of Wallace; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Brown and Mrs. Myrtie Sholar, both of Wallace; seven brothers, Stephen Sidney, Fennell, Buell, and Adell Cavenaugh, all of Wallace, Cyrus Cavenaugh of Warsaw, and Carroll Cavenaugh of Magnolia; and 8 grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Vernie Cavenaugh, Elmer Cavenaugh, Delwood Cavenaugh, Earl Cavenaugh, James M. Cavenaugh, and Leo Cavenaugh.
The body will be taken from Edgerton Funeral Home Saturday to the residence, where it will remain until one hour prior to the service."

She is the widow of Isaac Teachey.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p. m. from the Watha Penticostal [sic] Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Collier, pastor, and the Rev. A. C. Wheeler. Interment will follow in the Watha Methodist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Aubry T. Teachey and James Q. Teachey of Jacksonville, Fla. and Elbert C. Teachey of Watha; a daughter, Mrs. Cathrine T. Padgett of Watha; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Alexander of Rose Hill and Mrs. Millie Hanchey of Richmond, Va.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren."

"Lucian J. Brown Dies at 38

Lucian J. (Jackie) Brown, 38, formerly of Wallace, died Thursday night in Veterans Administration Hospital in Dublin, Ga. from injuries suffered in an auto accident two years ago.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 p. m. from Edgerton Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Dees. Burial was in the Murphy Cemetery in the Charity Community.
Survivors include his widow Mrs. Dorothy Brown of Roanoke, Ala.; two daughters, Miss Martha Frances and Miss Mary Jo Brown, both of Roanoke, Ala.; two sons, James Micheal and Jackie Brown of Roanoke, Ala. three sisters, Mrs. B. J. Miller of Beulaville, Mrs. Carol Lobland of Havelock and Miss Hilda Brown of Wallace; three brothers, W. C. Brown, Marion Brown and Raeford Brown all of Wallace.
Active pallbearers were Joe W. Bland, Terry Brown, Ronald Rivenbark, Edward Judge, Rifton Cavenaugh and Dulan Murray.
The family was at the residence of W. C. Brown at Tin City. Visitation was made at Edgerton Funeral Home until the hour of the funeral.
A native of Duplin County, Lucian James (Jackie) Brown was the son of the late Lucian R. and Rosa Lee Southerland Brown, and he had made his home in the Wallace community for many years prior to the early 1950's, when he entered the U. S. Army. Prior his illness, he had made his home in Alabama for several years."

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Vernease B. Brown; one daughter, Mrs. David Worsley of Wallace; two sons, Ray of Wilson and Terry Brown of the home; three sisters, Mrs. B. J. Miller of Beulaville, Mrs. Carl Lobland of Havelock and Mrs. Hilda Brown; two brothers, Marion and Raeford Brown, all of Wallace; two grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, he was a resident of the Tin City community and operated Carroll Grill in Wallace."

He was a retired farmer, a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church and a life long resident of the Lyman Community."

He was a member of the Wallace Presbyterian Church and had been associated with Husseys Tobacco Warehouse in Wallace."

He was a native of Duplin County, a lifelong resident of the Teachey Community, a retired farmer and a member of the Island Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Southerland is survived by his widow, Mrs. Estelle Teachey Southerland; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry Martin, Wallace; three sisters, Mrs. Cliff Ramsey and Mrs. Pearlie Rivenbark, Wallace and Mrs. George Bailey, Verona; one brother, James Southerland of Kinston; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 p. m. from Edgerton Funeral Chapel with Rev. T. B. Deese and Rev. L. W. Whitlock officiating. Burial will follow in the Pin Hook Church Cemetery.

A native of Duplin County, he was a farmer and carpenter and was employed by T. A. Loving Construction Company for many years.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Vada Cavenaugh of the home; two daughters, Mrs. James Wells of Wallace and Mrs. Frank Holden of Richmond, Va.; four sons, Chalres of Thomasville, Sam of Rose Hill, Frank and R. C., both of Wallace; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, Cavenaugh was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of the Northeast Community.
Pallbearers will be Hezzie Cavenaugh, Jimmy Cavenaugh, D. B. Wells, Richard Batts, William Cavenaugh and Dewey English.

Cavenaugh was born in Duplin County, October 26, 1876, the son of the late B. F. and Elizabeth Howard Cavenaugh.
He was supervisor of New Hanover County Farms for many years and was a member of the Unitarian Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Fannie Lawhorne Cavenaugh of the home; three sons, J.W. Cavenaugh Jr., Castle Hayne, Johnny Earl Cavenaugh, Winnabow and 1st Sgt. Lewis Adolp Cavenaugh, Vietnam, seven daughters, Miss Nola Cavenaugh, Mrs. Carrie Watkins, Mrs. Magnolia Mintz, Mrs. Ida Mae Guthre, Mrs. Sadie Lee Yopp, all of Wilmington, Mrs. Louise Nobles, Cerro Gordo, and Mrs. Mary Pearl Bonham, Rocky Point; two brothers, John W. Cavenaugh, Watha and Frank Cavenaugh, all of Jacksonville; 36 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 142 Gordon Road and at Coble Funeral Home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Beulaville - Willie G. Eubanks, 72, died Saturday morning in Duplin General Hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p. m. at the Quinn-McGowan Funeral Home by the Rev. Stephen Smith and the Rev. John Stevens. Burial was in East Duplin Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma C. Eubanks of Beulaville; five daughters, Mrs. Charles Rouse of Richlands, Mrs. Herman B. Kennedy of Beulaville, Mrs. Ed Gore of Sunset Beach, Mrs. Francis Jones of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Roland Platts of Louisburg; four sons, Eugene Eubanks of Charleston, S. C., Norman L. Eubanks of Fayetteville, Alvin R. Eubanks of Greensboro; one half-sister, Mrs. Annie Melton of Florida, one half-brother, Branch Powell of Beulaville."

Rose Hill - Carson Fisher Rouse, 72, of Rt. 2, Rose Hill, died suddenly Sunday night.
He was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Wallace American Legion Post and a member of the Charity Methodist Church.
Funeral services were Tuesday at 3 p. m. at Charity Methodist Church by the Rev. Raymond Hall assisted by the Rev. David Conert. Burial followed in Clay Hill Cemetery.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Nita Anderson Rouse; one daughter, Mrs. M. Doris Lanier of Wilmington; two sons, Jimmy Rouse of Rose Hill and Gilbert C. Rouse of Wauchula Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Florence Carter of Wallace and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chester Rouse, Boyce Fussell, Holmes Murphy, Dwayne Hanchey, Gerald Hanchey and Bobby Cavenaugh."

Wallace - Archie Roscoe Lainer [sic], 68, of Chinquapin, died Wednesday night in his home.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p. m. in the Sharon Baptist Church by the Rev. Edwin Carroll, assisted by the Rev. Ralph Kennedy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gaybrella Lanier; three daughters, Mrs. Gurman Maready of Jacksonville, Mrs. Ruth Harrington of Southport and Mrs. Norman Kennedy of Chinquapin; three sons, James Earl of Chinquapin, Alfred of Myrtle Beach, S. C., and H. G. Lanier of Ashland, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Sina Terryl of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Richard Lanier of Kinston; 21 grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Billy Brinkley, John W. Wood, T. G. Huffman, Carlo Lanier, Jim Southerland, Bill Brant, and Jimmy Piland.
Visitations will be at Edgerton Funeral Home in Wallace until 12 noon Friday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until services."

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva S. Sholar, 74, of Wallace, who died Tuesday, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Edgerton Funeral Chapel by the Revs. T. B. Deese and K. D. Brown. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Park.
Surviving are a foster daughter, Mrs. Jack Moore of Wallace; a foster son, Marion Henderson of Wallace; a sister, Mrs. Lenore Carter of Wallace; a brother, Irving Sholar of Wallace; six foster grandchildren.

Mrs. Effie Dawson Paderick, 78, wife of C. Y. Paderick, died at her home in the Woodington section of Kinston Route 5 at 9 a. m. Wednesday after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Joshua and Martha Smith Dawson of Lenoir County. She was a member of the Woodington Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Friday from the chapel of Garner's Funeral Home with Rev. John Long of Woodington officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park. Surviving in addition to her husband are, six sons, Norwood C. (Bill) of Kinston Route 5; Terry E. of Dover Route 1; Edwin L. of Troutville, Va., C. D. and C. Y. Jr., both of Portsmouth, Va and Elwood R. of LaGrange; three daughters, Mrs. W. E. Preast of Kinston, Mrs. T. H. Mason of Raleigh and Mrs. Robert Smith of Tulsa, Okla; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers."

"Hubert B. Carter, 77, Succumbs

Hubert Bertree Carter, aged 77, of 503 Forest Lane, Wallace, died early Friday morning in Sampson Memorial Hospital in Clinton after a short illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday at three o'clock from the Wallace Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. L. Edgar Whitlock, pastor. Burial was in the family plot in Brice's Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Norriss, of the home; also one brother, M. O. Carter of Salisbury.
A native of Duplin County, he was the son of the late Christopher T. and Alice Register Carter. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Wallace American Legion Post No. 156, a member of the Wallace Baptist Church,and was a member of the Wallace Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. He was a retired stereotype operator for The Washington Post in Washington, D.C.
Active pallbearers were Wendell Teachey, W. C. English, Jr., Craig King, Joe Pane, Jr., Joe Johnson and Charles Blackwelder.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the T. J. Baker Sunday School Class, the Wallace American Legion Post No. 156, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion.
Visitations were at Edgerton Funeral Home until 1:30 p.m. Saturday when the body was taken to the church to remain until the service."

"Duplin Native Succumbs At 54

Jesse A. Rivenbark, 54, of 318 MacMilian Avenue, Wilmington, died Tuesday morning at the Cape Fear Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Duplin County he was the son of the late Thomas Jackson and Mrs. Ludie Anne Cavenaugh Rivenbark, a member of the Winter Park Presbyterian Church, a member of the Woodmen of the World, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Wilmington Lodge, and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Ways. He was a retired employee of the Seaboard-Coastline Railroad.
Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 3:30 p.m. from Coble's Oleander Chapel, with the Rev. Neil M. McMillian officiating. Burial was in the Prospect Cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Klander Rivenbark of the home, three sons, Jesse Thomas Rivenbark, Wilmington, William Graham Rivenbark of the home, and Earnest David Rivenbark of Bolivia; one daughter, Mrs. Preston L. (Dorothy Linda) Williamson III of Columbia, S.C.; three brothers, Alton Aivenbark [sic], Thurman Rivenbark, and Elwood Rivenbark, all of Wilmington; two sisters, Mrs. Marshall Foster, Wilmington, and Mrs. Bliss English of Wallace; eight grandchildren."

Mr. Joe H. Cavenaugh died on Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eris Rouse in Jacksonville, N. C. The funeral service was held in Northeast Church on Saturday, and burial was in the Cavenaugh Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Lois Cavenaugh Rouse, and three grandchildren: Beverly, Alan, and William Rouse. Mrs. Rouse is the daughter-in-law of Mrs. W. I. Rouse of Rose Hill."

Jasper Gaylord (Jack) Carter, 83, of 1619 Trogdon St. died Tuesday in Wesley Long Hospital. A native of Pine [sic] Hill, he worked for Southern Railway for 37 years before retirement. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and the Glenwood United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Street Chapel.
Survivors are widow, Mrs. Isabelle Rose Carter; daughter, Mrs. W. D. Kellan of Greenboro; sons, Hubert S. Cater of Knoxville, Tenn., L. Howard Carter of Wilmington and Jack T. Carter of Eden; sisters, Mrs. Lonnie Humphrey of Kinston, Mrs. James F. Mohn of Richlands and Mrs. Leone Miller of Wilmington."
