Mrs. Maggie Wood Rackley, 47, widow of the late Earl Rackley of 337 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington and formerly of Chinquapin died Wednesday morning in James Walker Memorial Hospital at Wilmington.
Funeral service [sic] were held in the Sharon Baptist Church at Chinquapin Thursday afternoon at 3 O'clock conducted by Rev. Ernest Welchel, pastor. Interment was in the Church Cemetery.
She is survived by seven sisters, Mrs. R. J. Holliday of Wilmington with whom she made her home, Mrs. Corbett Pierce of Wallace; Mrs. Henry Sanderson of Magnolia; Mrs. C. M. Prescott of Sumter, S. C.; Mrs. Pete Wood, Mrs. Archie Lanier and Mrs. Fennell Lanier all of Chinquapin and several neices [sic] and nephews."

John H. Smith, 40, died Friday in the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in Quinn-McGowan Funeral Home by the Rev. Norman Flowers. Burial was in Pinecrest Cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Early Mae Smith of Warsaw; one sister, Mrs. Arnold R. Strickland of Warsaw; and five brothers, Durant and Horace of Berkley, Calif., Sidney of Rose Hill, Stanley of Warsaw and Randal of Kansas City, Missouri."

"Mrs. Alberta English

Burgaw - Mrs. Alberta Cummings English, 58, of Wallace, died in Pender Memorial Hospital here Thursday. She had been ill for a short time.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Wallace. The Rev. Forest Maxwell will officiate. Burial is to be in the Cavanaugh Family Cemetery near Chinquapin.
The body is to be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Visitation may be at the Quinn-McGowan Funeral Home here until that time.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Frances Williams of Fayetteville, Mrs. Eunice Mott of Wallace and Mrs. Joyce Cooper of Winder, Ga.; three sons, Eugene and Kenneth English of Jacksonville, Fla. and Bernice English of Wilmington; one sister, Mrs. Lanie Jackson of Beulaville; two brothers Herbert Cummings of Fayetteville and James Cummings of Lahabra, Calif. and 12 grandchildren."

Beulaville -- James Albert Lanier, 71, died Sunday. Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday at 3 p.m. by t he [sic] Rev. K. D. Brown. Burial was in Dave Lanier family cemetery near Chinquapin.
Surviving, are his wife Eliza L. Lanier; one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Aycock of Wilmington; five sons, Tommy of Burgaw, Elmer and Homer, Thurman and Gurman, all of Beulaville;, [sic] three brothers Charley of Sherrels, Jodie of Chinquapin, John of Burgaw; four sisters, Mrs. Ada Brown of Wallace, Mrs. Bessie Bradham and Mrs. Minnie Sloan, both of Chinquapin, Mrs. Bertie Hatcher of Beulaville; and 16 grandchildren."

James Arthur Cavenaugh, Jr.

"James A. (Jimmie) Cavenaugh

Goldsboro - James A. Cavenaugh, 63, formerly of Warsaw died Wednesday in Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness of about two months.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday morning at 11:00 O'clock [sic] at Willow Dale Cemetery. The Rev. Norman H. Flowers, pastor of the Warsaw Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member, officiated assisted by Rev. Graham Eubank, pastor of the St. Paul Methodist Church. During the years he spent in Warsaw he worked as a construction engineer for the A. J. Jenkins and Son Co. He was a member of the Warsaw Masonic Lodge 677, a former of the Warsaw Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Grady, one son James A., Jr., of Winston-Salem, two grand children, two sisters Mrs. Hugh M. Morrison of Wallace and Mrs. Carl H. Womack of Wilson."

Ottie D. Wall Williams

Wallace -- Mrs. Ottie Wall Williams, 76, died Thursday afternoon at the Bowden Nursing Home at Wrightsville Sound where she had resided four years.
A native of Loris, S. C., she was the daughter of Christopher C. and Frances Wall.
Residing in Wallace for many years, she was a member of Northeast Free Will Baptist Church in Chinquapin.
Her survivors include three sons, Norwood and George Williams of Wilmington and Morris Williams of Leland; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Cavenaugh of Rt. 2, Wallace; one brother, Marvin B. Wall of Chinquapin 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and the body will be at Norman Funeral Home."

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Jones Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Walter Kirk. Burial will be in Onslow Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. F. A. Darden and Mrs. J. C. Fennec, both of Jacksonville; a son, Colon Cavanaugh of Williamston; a brother, L. B. Cavanaugh of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren."

W. Henry Landen, 69, of 1918 Wolcott Ave. died Tuesday night at James Walker Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
A native of Duplin County, he was the son of the late James Allen and Ellen Landen Landen.
Survivors include a brother, S. L. Landen of Washington, D. C., and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Coble's Oleander Chapel. The Rev. A. L. McGee will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park cemetery."

Wallace - Herter A. Cavenaugh, 72 died suddenly of an apparent heart attack at his home Sunday morning.
Funeral services were held at the Northeast Freewill Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. J. E. Andrews, assisted by Rev. Vance Rich and Rev. Aubrey Carter. Burial followed in the Cavenaugh Family Cemetery near the house.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Lee Cavenaugh; one son, Stanley Cavenaugh of the home, three daughters Mrs. Evelyn Winkelman of Big Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Annette Pridgen of Rantoul, Ill., and Mrs. Eleanor Butler of Norfolk, Va., one sister, Mrs. Beulah Bradshaw of Wallace; two brothers, Alphin and Raeford Cavenaugh both of Wallace and four grandchildren."

Wallace - Charlie Council Lanier, 61, of Harrells, died Friday morning at his home.
A native of Duplin County, he was the son of the late Tom and Victoria Lanier.
He was an Army veteran of World War I and was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Norma Albertson Lanier of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Bradham, Mrs. Bertie Hatcher and Mrs. Minnie Sloan, all of Chinquapin, and two brothers, John Edward Lanier of Maple Hill and Jodie Lanier of Chinquapin.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Norman Memorial Chapel in Wallace by the Rev. James Sells, pastor of Bethel Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. K. D. Brown of Burgaw. Burial will be in the Lanier family cemetery.
The body will be at Norman Funeral Home until the funeral hour."

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, near Turkey, by the Rev. Paul Mull and the Rev. Waldo Early. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens near here.
Surviving are his widow, the former Mabel Cummings of Beulaville; two daughters, Bettie Lou and Linda English, both at home; two sons, Amery and Jimmy English, both of Warsaw; two sisters, Mrs. Berta Cavenaugh of Wallace, and Mrs. Virginia Sissell of Houston, Tex.; three brothers, Dewey English of Wallace, Waitus English of Hampstead, and Butler English of Wilmington."

A resident of Rt. 2, Wallace, she was a native of Duplin County, a daughter of the late John Thomas and Sarah Carter Mobley. She was a member of the Northeast Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Kirby Smith Rogers of the home; three daughters, Mary Louise Deitz of Wilmington, Mrs. Violet Grace Futrelle of Rose Hill, and Mrs. Evelyn Doris Stallings of Wallace; nine sons, Ralph Decatur Rogers, Roy James Rogers, David Earl Rogers Lloyd Carroll Rogers, all of Wallace, Lynwood Elmo Rogers of Millington, Tenn., Charles Thomas Rogers, El Toro, Calif., Clarance Homer Rogers of Norfolk, Va., Daril Jay Rogers of Bangor, Me., and Kirby Smith Rogers Jr., of Tucson, Ariz.; five sisters, Mrs. Earlie Farmer of Pulaski, Va., Mrs. Sena Williams of Chinquapin, Mrs. Mertie Ezzell of Wilmington, Mrs. Lillian English and Mrs. Sarah Teachey both of Wallace; twelve grand-children and a number of neices [sic] and nephews.
Funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, at Norman Memorial Chapel in Wallace. Burial will be in the family cemetery near the home. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Leonard Quick.
Visitation will be at Norman Funeral home until the funeral."

A native of Duplin County, he was a retired contractor and farmer, was a veteran of World War I and attended Northeast Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4 p. m. at his church by the Rev. J. E. Andrews, the Rev. A. H. Carter, and the Rev. Vance Rich. Burial will be in the family cemetery.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Batts Cavanaugh; two daughters, Mrs. Dovie Connelly of Reevesville, S. C., and Mrs. Elizabeth Simpkins of Jacksonville; a son, Donald Ray Cavanaugh of Rocky Mount; a brother, Offie Cavanaugh of Route 2 Wallace; a sister, Mrs. Beulah Bradshaw of Route 2 Wallace; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Thomas, Earl and Stanley Cavanaugh, Johnny and Marion Bradshaw and Harvey Brinson.
The body will be at the home until an hour before services."

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p. m. Tuesday at the Rose Hill Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Sparks and the Rev. D. A. Petty officiating. Burial is to be in Duplin Memorial Gardens near here.
Survivors include one son, Fred W. Harrell of Maple Hill; three daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Fussell of Rose Hill, Mrs. Russell Montague of Goldsboro and Mrs. Jerry Smith of Fort Worth, Tex.; sixteen grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren."

A native of Duplin County, she was a department store clerk in Jacksonville. Mrs. Johnson was daughter of Clyde English and the late Lottie Parker English.
Surviving, in addition to her father, are two daughters, Mrs. Linda Mae Mote of Rt. 2, Wallace, and Miss Terry Camelia Johnson of the home; four brothers, Homer English of Wallace, Harry English of Burgaw, James English of Charleston, S. C., and Leroy English of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Lucy English of Cloverdale, Utah; three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cavanaugh Family Cemetery near the home by the Rev. K. D. Brown of Burgaw.
Pallbearers will be Rubin Smith, Dawson Stokes, Melvin Kelly, Albert Pierce, George Parker and George Carter.
The body was taken to the home at 6 p.m. Monday where it will remain until the service hour."

Funeral services will be held at the Free Will Holiness Church in Warsaw at 3 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Zeb Summerlin. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery."

A native of Rose Hill, he was a retired farmer and a son of the late John Wright and Dora C. Teachey.
He was a member of the Teachey Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Gertrude Powell Teachey of the home; two brothers, John R. Teachey of Rose Hill and David C. Teachey of Portsmouth, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Earlie May Smith of Warsaw and Mrs. Margaret T. Wells of Teachey; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Norman Memorial Chapel by the Rev. E. F. Knight, pastor of Teachey Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at Norman Funeral Home until the funeral.
Pallbearers will be Donald Teachey, Carol Carl Powell, Eugene Kermon, Edward Teachey, Marvin Troutman and Wayne Troutman."

A native of Pender County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Harriet Eason Blake. She was the widow of John S. Cavenaugh.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lanier, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. C. T. Fussell, both of Rose Hill; a son, Albert J. Cavenaugh of Wallace; three sisters, Mrs. W. H. Cavenaugh and Mrs. A. F. Waters, both of Rose Hill, and Mrs. D. B. Stanley of Wolf City, Tex.; a brother, H. C. Blake of Wilmington; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a. m. in Norman Memorial Chapel by the Rev. George Ports, pastor of Wallace Methodist Church, and the Rev. Charles Sparks, pastor of Rose Hill Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rockfish Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be A. J. Cavenaugh Jr., C. T. Fussell Jr., Aaron Fussell, Leo Lanier, Max Sykes and Lewis Blake.
Visitation will be at Norman Funeral Home until the funeral hour.
The family will be at the home of Mrs. Lanier, 108 East Center Street."

Surviving are her husband, Claude Cavenaugh; one daughter, Mrs. Hilburn Moore of Rose Hill, one son, Raymond Cavenaugh of Rt. 2, Wallace; one sister, Mrs. Luther Ward of Hartsville, S. C.; four brothers, L. W. Duff, G. S. Duff and Ed Duff, all of Rt. 2, Wallace, and Waitus Duff of Kinston; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren."

She was a native of Duplin County and a member of Oakdale Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Almond James and Mrs. T. G. Raynor, both of Route 2, Wallace, Mrs. Charles Humphreys of Gainesville, Ga.; three sons, Roe of Route 2, with whom she made her home, Roland James of Route 2 and H. Kellam James of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Mathie J. Sholar of Route 2; sixteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. The family will be at the home of Roe James. She was a lifetime resident of the Pinhook Community."

A native of Duplin County, he was a retired cafe operator, a veteran of World War I, and a member of the Northeast Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elma Allen Southerland; two sons, Gerald Southerland of Durham and Pat Southerland of Wallace; three daughters, Mrs. Mildred (Mickey) Evans of Farmville, Mrs. Sylvia Brown of Rose Hill and Mrs. Judy Armstrong of Raleigh; two brothers, James F. Southerland of Kinston and William Southerland of Teachey; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Ramsey, and Mrs. Maggie Rivenbark of Wallace and Mrs. Betty Bailey of Verona; eight grandchildren."

Wallace -- Funeral services for Robert R. Cavenaugh, 70, who died Saturday, were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at the North East Free Will Baptist Church, of which he was a member and chairman of the Board of Deacons, by the Rev. David Conert, the Rev. J. E. Andrews and the Rev. Vance Rich. Burial was in the Cavenaugh Cemetery.
He was a veteran of WW I. Surviving are his wife, the former Berta English of Wallace; four sons, Norwood of Wallace; Willie of Winston-Salem, Richard and Duncan, both of Warsaw; one daughter, Mrs. Willie Boyd of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Sallie McClung of Wallace; four brothers, Joe, Paul and Waitus all of Wallace and Herman of Teachey and ten grandchildren.
Mr. Cavenaugh's brother was buried the first of the same week."

Marion Henry "Bob" White

"Bob White, Former Wallace Resident, Dies In Auto Mishap

Wallace residents were shocked and saddened today to learn of the untimely death of a former local resident, Marion Henry (Bob) White.
Mr. White, 39, of 4401 Leota Drive, Raleigh, formerly of Wallace, was killed in an automobile accident Sunday. The mishap occurred around 5:30 o'clock near Apex. He and his family were returning to Raleigh from Hamlet where they had been visiting Mrs. White's family.
Details of the accident are unavailable, but it is understood that Mr. White was killed instantly. Mrs. White suffered a fractured leg and some fractured ribs. Their son Butch, 7, received a broken nose and back injuries. Their daughter, Susan, 11, received a bump on the forehead. Mrs. White and Susan were treated at Rex Hospital in Raleigh and released. Butch is a patient there with a fractured vertebra.
A native of Wallace, Mr. White was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. He was a former Constable of Duplin County, a former Justice of the Peace of Wallace, and for the past four years had been a U. S. Deputy Marshal, stationed in Raleigh. He was the son of Mrs. Mary Lou Cavenaugh White of Wallace and the late Dewey White.
Bob was a former member of the Wallace Baptist Church and at the time of his death was a member of the Garner Baptist Church. He was well known and highly respected by both the white and colored residents of Duplin County through his work with law enforcement.
His friends here will be interested to learn that Mr. White was up for promotion to Chief Deputy Marshal to become effective January 1.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Wallace Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the Cavenaugh Family Cemetery east of Wallace.
Visitations will be at Edgerton Funeral Home until one hour prior to the service.
Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara McEwen, one daughter, Wanda Susan, and one son, Marion Henry, Jr., all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Mary Lou White of Wallace; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Matthews of Wallace and Mrs. Fannie Mae King of Jacksonville."
