"Mrs. Margaret Cavenaugh
Watha, Jan. 13 -- Mrs. Margaret Savage Cavenaugh, 94, wife of the late J. Q. Cavenaugh, passed away yesterday at the home of her son, J. P. Cavenaugh, in Watha. The deceased was a life long resident of Rose Hill.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Free Will Baptist church at Watha, the Rev. A. C. Wheeler, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the family cemetery in Duplin county.
She is survived by two sons and four daughters, Mrs. Dora Teachey of Rose Hill, Mrs. H. M. Alexander of Falcon, Mrs. Ivey Teachey of Watha, Mrs. W. H. Hanchey of Richmond, Va., Macon Cavenaugh of Rose Hill and J. P. Cavenaugh of Watha. A number of grand children and great grandchildren also survive."

William Chasten Wallace, 71, retired farmer of Wallace, died Friday night after an illness of several years. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p. m. at Teachey Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mr. Glazier and the Rev. J. C. Case in charge. Burial was in the family cemetery near Chinquapin. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Johnnie Dixon and Mrs. Ernest Dixon both of Wallace; two sons, William of Cherokee and Joe of Wallace; one brother,, [sic] J. R. Wallace of Hickory; and one sister, Mrs. M. B. Pope of Wallace."

"Funeral Services Of Mrs. Hollingsworth
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Lula Cavanaugh Hollingsworth, Wallace, Route 2, at the home Thursday afternoon, June 4th at 4:30 o'clock. Interment was made in the Cavanaugh Cemetery. Rev. Jim Garrin, pastor of Chinquapin Presbyterian church and Rev. N. Ernest Gresham, pastor of Sharon Baptist church of Chinquapin conducted the rites.
Mrs. Hollingsworth was a member of Chinquapin Presbyterian church.
She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Frank Parker, a grand daughter Brenda Kay Parker, one sister, Mrs. Frank Powell, all of Wallace, Route 2, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bill Dail, Tim Wood, Robert Evans, Vernie Gurganous, Claude Henderson and Lionell James."

J. P. Cavenaugh, Duplin Native, Died July 22 In James Walker Hospital
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 24, for J. P. Cavenaugh from the Watha Free Will Baptist church with the pastor, W. B. Howell, officiating and assisted by Rev. Austin Wheeler and Rev. A. J. Benton. Burial was in the family cemetery ten miles east of Wallace.
Mr. Cavenaugh was born December 19, 1882, and was the son of the late J. W. and Margaret Alice Cavenaugh, of Duplin County. He died July 22 in James Walker Memorial Hospital, Wilmington.
Pallbearers were Aubrey Teachey and J. W. Teachey, of Wilmington, Eustice Wood, of Wallace, James Wheeler, Thurman Garriss and Paul Garriss, of Watha.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Stroud Cavenaugh; one son, W. J. Cavenaugh; two daughters, Mrs. Inez Swinson, and Mrs. Marie Chestnutt; four sisters, Mrs. Mellie Hanchey, of Richmond, Va.; Mrs. Dora Teachey, of Rose Hill; Mrs. Lillian Alexander, of Falcon; Mrs. Katie Teachey, of Watha. One brother, Macon Cavenaugh, of Rose Hill. Eight grandchildren also survive."

Mrs. Victoria Lanier, 76, widow of Z. T. Lanier of near Chinquapin, died at her home Friday after a lingering illness of several years. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 3 p. m. by the Rev. W. A. Walton, pastor of the Maple Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Interment was in the family cemetery. Surviving are five sons, J. E. Lanier of Burgaw, J. A. Lanier of Beulaville, Zeb Lanier of Richmond, J. W. Lanier and Zack Lanier of Chinquapin; five daughters, Mrs. D. W. "Eli Cavenaugh
Mr. Eli Cavenaugh of Sunset Park, died Saturday afternoon at his residence after 16 years of invalidism. He was born in Duplin county 86 years ago, son of the late Rev. J. D. Cavenaugh.
Before his retirement he was well known in railroad and insurance circles, having been agent for the A. C. L. After moving to Wilmington in 1905 he entered th [sic] insurance field.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jennie Baker Cavenaugh, and the following children, Mrs. Lucile Cavenaugh of New York city, Mrs. Madge Cavenaugh, also from N. Y., Mrs. J. Shepard Bryan of Dunn; Earnest, Harold, and Mary Cavenaugh of Atlanta, Ga., Charles and James of Tampa, Fla., a sister Mrs. Emma Anderson of Watha; six grand children and several great grand children, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Ward Funeral home.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Ward Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the Rev. J. A. Russel officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakdale cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be R. F. Coleman, Spurgeon Baxley, D. B. Robbinson, J. B. McQuere, J. E. Hearn and A. E. Baker.
Honorary pallbearers will be W. B. Cooper, K. W. Price, G. B. Webster, G. C. Bordeaux, Dr. Houston and Dr. Albert G. Moore."

Mrs. Mary Lanier Wood, wife of the late John A. Wood, died early Sunday morning at her home in Cypress Creek. She was 74. Services were held Monday at 3 p. m. from the Sharon Baptist Church in Chinquapin with the Rev. N. E. Gresham of Jacksonville in charge. Burial was in the church cemetery. She is survived by eight daughters, Mrs. Pete Wood, Mrs. Archie Lanier, Mrs. Fannie [sic] Lanier, all of Chinquapin, Mrs. Corbett Pierce and Mrs. Earl Rackley of Wallace, Mrs. C. M. Prescott of Sumpter, S. C., Mrs. Henry Sanderson and Mrs. R. J. Holliday both of Wilmington and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren."

Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in the family near Chinquapin at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon by the Rev. Garvey, pastor of the Chinquapin Presbyterian church.

Clinton, Dec. 21 -- Joseph Edward Carter, 29, died in a Fayetteville hospital Monday after a brief illness. Leslie Batts, age 49 of Magnolia died last Tuesday in the James Walker Hospital in Wilmington after a brief illness.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the home by Rev. T. W. McNeeley, pastor of the Magnolia Baptist church of which he was a member. Burial was in the Magnolia cemetery.

Homer Julian Batts, 76, died at his home near Chinquapin Wednesday morning of last week at 8:20 o'clock after a brief illness. A member of the Sharon Baptist Church in Chinquapin for 40 years, he was a life long resident of this county, engaging in extensive farming. Funeral services were conducted from the home Thursday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. N. E. Gresham, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Garvey of Chinquapin. Burial followed in the family cemetery near the home. In addition to his wife, the former Alice Sheffield, he is survived by seven children from a former marriage: Mrs. Myrtle Futrelle and Mrs. Ben Batts, Chinquapin, Mrs. Alma Lanier, Burgaw, Mrs. Frankie Sandlin, McCain, Mrs. H. L. Sandlin and Mrs. Ruby Atkinson, Wallace, Mrs. Ruth Butler, Fayetteville; and one sister, Mrs. Eula Sanderson of Wilmington; also a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren."

Mrs. Agnes Aldridge Byrd, 45, widow of Tobie Byrd of the Mewborn's Crossroads section, died in a local hospital Sunday afternoon after a major operation. The funeral will be at the graveside in the L. P. Tyndall Cemetery near Old Pink Hill at 3 p. m. Monday, Rev. Rupert A. Phillips, Disciples of Christ minister from Kinston, officiating.
Surviving are four sons, Horace, Johnnie, and Charles Ray Byrd all of the home, and Tommy Byrd of Kinston; three daughters, Lena Mae, Agnes and Carol, all of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Guy Worthington of Kinston and Mrs. Roosevelt Casper of Institute."

Friends of Mr. Enice Brown of the Sholar Cross Road section were sorry to learn that he died of a sudden heart attack Saturday evening. He was the son of Mrs. Boat Brown and the late Mr. Brown of near the home.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon in the family cemetery at 3 p. m.
He is survived by his wife and eight children and his mother, all of the home. One sister, Mrs. Alton Piece of near the home and one brother, Mr. Ronald Brown of Wallace. He will be missed very much by every one."

Interment was in the family cemetery. Surviving are Mrs. Summerlin, formerly Nealia Kilpatrick; eight daughters, Mrs. Florence Houston of Warsaw, Mrs. D. F. Chambers of Kenansville, Mrs. Carl Ivey, Mrs. Walter Hinson and Mary G. Summerlin, all of the home community, Mrs. Edward Goodson of Raleigh, Mrs. Bernard Goodson of Red Springs, and Mrs. James Southerland of Seven Springs; one son, Robert, of Chapel Hill; three sisters, Mrs. T.
