Among First To Land In France

He Was A Member Of The Fourth Division And Took Part In The Invasion

Pvt. Graham B. Cavenaugh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Cavenaugh, Route 2, Wallace, N. C., has been reported missing in action somewhere on a beachhead in France. He has been reported missing since June 8, 1944, just two days after his Division landed in France. Private Cavenaugh was a member of the Fourth Division.
Mr. and Mrs. Cavenaugh received a letter from the Adjutant General on Monday, June 26, expressing the deep regret of the Secretary of War that their son, Pvt. Graham B. Cavenaugh had been reported missing in action.
Private Cavenaugh is the first Duplin County boy to be reported missing in action in France since the invasion took place. However, there are quite a large number of Duplin boys in the Fourth Division, which was one of the first American Divisions to land in France, and reports from these will be received soon, it is hoped.
He was also one among the first boys from the county to be inducted into the Army. He was inducted in May, 1941, served two years in the Panama Canal Zone, and was transferred to England in February, 1944."
