Elfreda Youngberg was born at Assaria, Saline Co, KS, on June 3, 1888. She was listed as a daughter in Andrew Youngberg's household on the 1900 Census at Greeley Township, Saline County, KS. She married Chester "Chet" Orman Burt between April, 1909 and April, 1910. Elfreda was listed as a daughter-in-law in James M. Burt's household on the 1910 Census at Eureka Township, Saline Co, KS. James was a farmer, who owned his farm free and clear. Chester was also listed as a farmer, although no ownership is listed, so I assume he was helping his father. Elfreda was listed as Chester "Chet" Orman Burt's wife on the 1920 Census at Gypsum, Saline Co, KS. She resided at Gypsum, KS, in June, 1923. She was listed as a wife in an Chester Burt's household on the 1930 Census at 6 College Court, Salina, Saline Co, KS. On August 25, 1937 Elfreda travelled to the Ortman Clinic, in Canistota, South Dakota, a chiropractic clinic still in operation today. In a postcard home, she wrote about her hip and how all the others were in wheelchairs and on crutches. Elfreda was a Sons of Union Veterans auxiliary member and a Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary member at Salina, Saline Co, KS. She and Chester "Chet" Orman Burt lived in October, 1948 at 509 North Eleventh, Salina, Saline Co, KS. She lived in October, 1949 at 258 N. Penn, Salina, Saline Co, KS. Elfreda died on October 20, 1949 at St. John's Hospital, Salina, Saline Co, KS, at age 61. An obituary was published on October 21, 1949 in the The Salina Journal at Salina, Saline Co, KS. Elfreda's funeral was held on October 22, 1949 at Guy R. Ryan and Sons mortuary in Salina, Saline Co, KS. Her body was interred on October 22, 1949 at Poheta Cemetery, near Kipp, Saline Co, KS. |
