Andrew Youngberg was born at Scony, Sweden, on September 9, 1848.

He married Anna Freidriks before 1880.

Andrew immigrated in 1880 to the USA. His Flyttningsbevis, or Swedish exit permit, is signed by the pastor of the parish of Nammt in the lan (county) of Kristianstads. From what little we can translate, it appears that Andrew was married (!) and had had a smallpox vaccination.

Family tradition has it that he changed his name from Johnson to Youngberg after a relative was cheated out of land in the Oklahoma Land Rush (1889) because the name Johnson was so common. In his naturalization first papers (1888), the name is Johnberg.

He moved in 1881 to Saline Co, KS. Andrew "Johnberg' and S.A.Johson borrowed $35 from J.C. Johnson. The loan was repaid on August 19, 1886.

He petitioned the court to become a citizen at Saline Co, KS, on October 29, 1888.

On August 11, 1891 Andrew purchased a Sukly Plow from Lander and Nelson. He signed a note for $45.

He married Tina Maria "Mary" Gunnerson, probably in Kansas circa 1893; this date seems wrong, given the birthdates of the children.

On June 19, 1896 Andrew signed 3 notes, due October 1, 1896, 1897, and 1898, for $45 each, payable to Deering Harvester. What he bought isn't recorded. For collateral, he used one bay mare, 9 years old, one gray mare, 6 years old, one black horse, 5 years old, one brown horse, 5 years old, and 50 acres of wheat. He resided at Saline Co, KS, on June 19, 1896, at Section 32, Township 14, Range 2.

On January 16, 1897 Andrew borrowed $25.45 from the National Bank of America. Mary and S.A. Ringquist co- signed. The loan was repaid May 17, 1897.

On September 22, 1897 Andrew purchased a drill for $25. He paid for the drill, plus $2.40 interest, on September 26, 1898.

Andrew was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census at Greeley Township, Saline County, KS. Everyone in the household spoke English, and all but the smallest children could read and write. They rented the farm. By this time, Mary had had 5 children, but only 3 were still living.

On November 30, 1903 Andrew signed a note for $50 for the purchase of a Fuller & Johnson 3 1/4 gear? wagon. The note was renewed on November 21, 1904.

Andrew was listed in a directory at Pleasant Valley, KS, in 1904.

On November 21, 1904 Andrew and Mary rented R. H Atherton's farm on Section 31, Township of Elm Creek, Saline Co, KS. They had rights to 40 acres of wheat sown and growing on South 1/2 of South East 1/4 of Section 31, Elm Creek township (13) Range 3.

On April 30, 1906 Andrew signed a note for $85 with the Beck Supply Co for the purchase of a cream separator.

On September 19, 1906 Andrew paid W.A. Johnson #31.86 for threshing, $15.93 for hauling and $3 for horse feed and board for haulers.

On November 7, 1906 Andrew signed a note with the Salina Implement and Seed Co for $96. For collateral, he used two black mares, 4 years old, named Fleet and Fly, one Fuller & Johnson 3/4 wagon, and one half interest in sixty acres of wheat. On November 7, 1906 the Youngbergs had one-half interest in 60 acres of wheat growing on the south west quarter of section 14 township 15, Eureka, range 1 west.

Andrew signed a lease for 4 months from April 1, 1908 through July 31, 1908 with E.P. Olssen, agt for the southwest quarter (I think) of section 14, township 15, range 1 of Saline, Co, KS. In consideration, he would pay the owner 1/3 of the hay in shock, 1/3 of the wheat, and 1/3 of the fruit. Andrew was to have all the alfalfa up to the expiration of the lease. The wheat was to be delivered from the thresher in Gypsum.

Andrew paid taxes at Saline Co, KS, on January 9, 1909. The total county, township and school tax on $380 of personal property was $3. The receipt has a stamp that says "Barnes High School Tax paid under protest."

On March 29, 1909 Andrew borrowed $50. As collateral, he listed 1 mare, 4 years old, iron gray, named Jessie and 1 horse, 3 years old, black, named Prince. They were on the Martin farm, N 1/2, NE 1/4, 24-16-8.

Andrew was listed as the head of a family on the 1910 Census at Liberty Township. Andrew was listed as a farmer, Carl as a farm laborer; they rented the farm.

Andrew was listed as the head of a family on the 1920 Census at Empire Township, Ellsworth Co, KS. Andrew was listed as a farmer, renting. Carl and Reuben were listed as laborers at a wholesale house. Berniece, Ethel, and Ruth were in school.
