Flora Virginia Shellhorn was born in DuBois, Pawnee Co, NE, on December 3, 1858. She was listed as a household member living with John Shellhorn in the 1860 Census in Pawnee Co, NE. She was listed as a resident in John Shellhorn's household in the census report in Pawnee Co, NE, on September 5, 1870. She married Elisha "Lish" DeWitt in Nemaha Co, NE, on April 2, 1874. She moved Fall 1910 to Ellsworth Co, KS. She moved in 1913 in Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS. Flora was a member of the United Brethren church in Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS. Flora was listed as a mother in Clarence Marion DeWitt's household on the 1920 Census in Broadway Ave, Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS. She was listed as a mother in Clarence Marion DeWitt's household on the 1930 Census in Butler Street, Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS. She resided in Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS, on December 30, 1935 at the time of her daughter Effie's death. Flora died on June 11, 1944 in Abilene hospital, Abilene,
Dickinson Co, KS, at age 85. Her funeral was held in Federated church,
Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS, on June 13, 1944. Rev. C. M. Gambriell in charge.
Mrs. H. E. Clingenpeel and Mrs. Lawrence Wilson, accompanied by Miss Madeline
Clingenpeel on the violin, and Miss Susanne Leatherman, on the piano sang
two duet numbers. Pallbearers were Joe Frazier, Glen Miller, Ira T. Koogle,
Oliver Phillips, Chas O'Connor and W. E. Darby. Her body was interred
on June 13, 1944 in DuBois, Pawnee Co, NE, in family lot. An obituary
was published on June 15, 1944 in the Chapman Advertiser in Chapman, Dickinson
Co, KS. |
