Magnus Gunnerson was also known as Magnus Gudmundson. Magnus was born at Kronobergs, Sverige, on April 4, 1812. He married Maria Jonasdaughter at Vigdei Hemsjo, Sweden, on January 28, 1845. He immigrated on May 21, 1856 to Chicago, Cook Co, IL. He resided at Princeton, IL, after 1856. He moved circa 1869 to Saline Co, KS. He was a founding member of Swedish Evangelicalistic Lutheran Assaria Congregation at Liberty Township, Saline Co, Ca, on February 6, 1875. Magnus was involved in the search for a minister. A census listed Magnus as head of household at Liberty Township, Salina Co, KS, on March 1, 1875. Magnus was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census at Liberty Township, Saline County, KS. A census listed Magnus as head of household at Liberty Township, Saline County, KS, in June, 1885. In the agriculture records in this census, Magnus is listed as having 152 acres, mostly unfenced, worth $4,000. He had planted 25 acres of winter wheat, 35 acres of corn, 5 acres of oats, and 1/4 acre of Irish potatoes. He had $1,000 of corn on hand on March, 1885. He had 6 acres of pasture and 20 of hay. He had made 200 pounds of butter in the year ending March 1, 1885. He had 2 horses, 2 milch cows, 2 other cattle and 6 swine. He had slaughtered or sold for slaughter $25 worth of animals. He had 1 dog. Magnus was listed in a directory at Liberty Township, Salina Co, KS, in 1885. Magnus died on February 8, 1896 at his home, 1/2 mile east
of Assaria, Saline Co, KS, at age 83. |
