George Robert Green was born on June 11, 1836 in Rappahannock Co, VA. He was listed as a household member living with George W. Green on the 1850 Census in Rappahanock Co, VA. He was listed as a household member living with George W. Green in the 1860 Census in Rappahanock Co, VA. George spent four years in the Confederate army, serving first under General Lee. He was also member of the Black Horse Cavalry, part of the Virginia 4th Cavalry, and served under General Jubel Early in the Shenandoah Valley raid in 1864. He married Sarah Catherine Taylor in Amesville, VA, on August 28, 1862. He moved on March 11, 1865 to Cherry Valley, Newark, Licking Co, OH. George and Sarah joined Christian Union church in Cherry Valley on December 11, 1865; George was baptised there. The family moved circa 1870 to York Street, Pataskala, Licking Co, OH. They purchased the Martindale farm, which consisted of 125 acres. George was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Harrison Township, Licking Co, OH. George was a farmer, with $5600 in real estate and $700 in personal property. Anna and Amora? were in school. George was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Harrison Township, Licking Co, OH. George was a farmer, and Jennie, Lee, Manda, Arnetta and Allie were in school. A William Parnell, 24, was living with the family and working as a farm laborer. He bought property in Harrison Township, Licking Co, OH, before May 8, 1883. He received a warranty deed for 70 acres from Rosa Belle Ruckman and 70 acres from the Sheriff of Licking county. He was sued by W. W. Stewart for "damages for alienating the affections of his wife." The case was heard by a jury in the Common Pleas Court. The jury found for the plaintiff, but awarded the plaintiff damages of one cent, rather than the $10,000 he had requested on December 3, 1883 in Newark, Licking Co, OH. He and Sarah Catherine Green celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a large party on August 27, 1887 in York Street, Licking Co, OH. He was embroiled in a feud with a neighbor, Perry Shaffer in March, 1889 in Licking Co, OH. He accused Shaffer of sending obscene mail to his house. In about 1897, he turned the management of the farm over to Will. George signed a will on January 24, 1899 in Harrison Township, Licking Co, OH; in the will, he left all his property to his wife, until she died or remarried, at which time it was to be divided equally among his seven children, Ann V. Langle, Amanda C. Hannah, Arminta F. Lennington, Ella Langle, William T. Green, Jesse G. Green, and Pearl G. Green. George was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census in Harrison Township, Licking Co, OH. George was listed as a "huckster," Jessie was a saleswoman, and Pearl was in school. George owned the farm. He died on April 29, 1902 in Licking Co, OH, at age 65. He was buried on May 1, 1902 in Pataskala Cemetery, Pataskala, Licking Co, OH. A notice of George's death was published on May 1, 1902 in the Pataskala Standard in Pataskala, Licking Co, OH. An obituary was published on May 8, 1902 in the Pataskala Standard in Pataskala, Licking Co, OH. On May 28, 1902, William T. Green presented George's will for probate; Jennie Langle, Amanda C. Hanna, Armitta Lenington, Will Green, Jesse G. Green, and Pearl Green had all signed a waiver allowing immediate probate, but since Harry and Cora Langle, Ella's children, had not signed, a hearing date was set and Will was instructed to inform them. On June 3, 1902, George's will was accepted for probate. Sarah Green signed a waiver accepting the provisions of the will rather than her legal dower rights.
