She married Orice Lee Hays at Pawnee City, Pawnee Co, NE, on April 11, 1907. She resided in DuBois, Pawnee Co, NE, in 1907.

Effie was listed as Orice Lee Hays's wife on the 1910 Census at Ellsworth Co, KS. She moved in 1912 at Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS.

Effie was listed as an wife in Orice Lee Hays's household on the 1920 Census at Junction City, Geary Co, KS.

She moved circa 1928 to Salina, Saline Co, KS.

She was listed as a wife in Lee Hays's household on the 1930 Census at 401 East Republic, Salina, Saline Co, KS.

Effie died on December 29, 1935 at home, Salina, Saline Co, KS, at age 47. The cause of death was uremia. An obituary was published on December 30, 1935 in the Salina Journal at Salina, Saline Co, KS. A second funeral was held on December 31, 1935 at Federated Methodist Church in Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS. Rev. L.F. Arend of the University Methodist Church, Salina, presided; Rev. J. P. Wilely assisted. Her body was interred on December 31, 1935 at Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS, at Indian Hill cemetery. Effie's funeral was held on December 31, 1935 at Ryan Mortuary in Salina, Saline Co, KS. An obituary was published on January 2, 1936 in the Chapman Advertiser at Chapman, Dickinson Co, KS.
