E-mail message - Will send me an e-mail message as described on my Contact Me page.  This is the best way to send me a picture you would like to share.  If your address is not in my address book you will be asked to confirm a request to be added.  Please be sure to respond to that request or I may miss your message.  Of course, you can always call or send snail-mail.

WorldConnect - An area provided by RootsWeb.com (Ancestry.com) to deposit genealogy information.  WorldConnect will display GEDCOM data in Family Group Sheet form with notes and sources.  It can also display Index, Ancestry, Descendant, and Pedigree reports.  To get to the WorldConnect page, click on the First name links next to the "<- go to WorldConnect" line on each page in this Project.  To get a printable page, click on the "Printer Friendly Version" link at the bottom of the WorldConnect page.

Post-Em note - A method of leaving the author of the genealogy data and all other visitors a comment about a particular person.  This method is available using the above WorldConnect links and then clicking in the Post-Em link for that page.  The posted message is shown on a separate web page attached to that person AND is sent to the page author as an E-mail message.  Do not be concerned about the one-time registration.  It is harmless and creates a way that you can change your E-mail address in the future for all RootsWeb Post-Em places.  After the note in incorporated in the data base, I remove it from the web page.

Scanning - Documents may be scanned or digitally photographed.  Use the same sizing criteria as shown in the Picture tips below.

Picture tips - Tombstone and other internet pictures should be between 480 to 720 pixels wide by 480 to 850 (prefer 720) pixels high in ".jpg" or ".gif" format.  The result should be between 80 and 180Kb.  Pictures should be taken on a bright day before 10:00 am or after 3:00 pm during the summer months or when the grounds provide a good background.  If the object does not face the sun, a 3 by 4-foot reflector, painted silver or white, can be very useful.  If the object is in partial shade (dark shadows with bright sections) it is best to fully shade the object with a sheet and use a flash or reflector for light as needed.  Always fill the frame and hold camera perpendicular to the inscription surface.  If the stone is shinny, dark, and reflective, place the camera at a slight left/right angle to avoid photographing the photographer.

To prepare tombstones, bring water, misting bottle, scissors (clippers), and pruner.  Wash stones GENTLY using only water and your hands.  Move and replace any obstructions, if possible, without destroying.  Low contrast lettering is often enhanced by misting the inscription.  If the stone is broken, have an assistant hold the pieces in their original orientation and then return them as found.  Use the recorder to note the date, the cemetery, the inscription, the stone location, and the monuments at the ends of the row or any significant nearby landmarks.  Coordinates from a Global Position System (GPS) device or a map will make re-visits and mapping much easier.
