History of Scipio Township
This township was first settled by Adam Keith and his brother-in-law, Lewis Sherley, and old Mrs. Shirley, who reached their new home on the 6th of July , 1829; they entered land of Section 9; Joseph Osborn in 1830; Arba Heald settled on Section 16, in 1831; Hugh McGivens and Wm. Adams on Section 17, the same year; also, Arthur McClure on Section 5; Elijah Brown and Dea Brayton came before 1832; Lewis Keith, in July 1832 settled on Section 8; John Broadhead on Section 18, the same year; N.W. Closser in April, 1834; John Garwood took up lands on Section 6, in 1831; Peter White bought of the Michigan Road Lands, on Section 21, in 1832; Levi and Elmore Pattee settled on Section 19, about 1833; Thomas Sales settled on Section 20 about 1832; Joseph C. Orr was an old settler about the same time; Mr. Melville settled on Section 7, in 1832;

Jas. Armstrong; first M.E. Church was at Door Village; first death, Elizabeth Keith, may 30, 1830, wife of Adam Keith; first birth, Keith Shirley, Oct. 10, 1829; first couple married, Adam Keith and Hannah Harris, daughter of Richard Harris; the first Baptist Church in 1840, at Door Villiage; Elder Spaulding, first Baptist minister; Door Village was laid out on the School Section by the commissioners.
