110. William M.5 BRYANT (Aaron4, Tarlton3, William2 BRYAN, Unknown1) (Source: Federal Cocke County, TN 1860 Census.) was born April 1854 in Cosby, Cocke County, TN, and died Abt. 1916 in Hot Springs, Sierra County, NM (Source: FamilySearch.org/default.). He married Nancy Emma BYRD (Source: (1) FamilySearch.org/default., (2) FamilySerach-IGI Record: FN: 1760944., (3) AFN: 1PPK-12K., (4) AFN: 1PPK-13R., (5) AFN: 289L-PM.) December 31, 1877 in Walnut Grove, Collin County, TX (Source: Marraige Certificate, Collin County, TX(Bryant/Bird).), daughter of Mitchell BYRD and Sarah LEWIS. She was born October 30, 1860 in Newport, Cocke County, TN, and died December 20, 1895 in McKinney , Collin County, TX.

Notes for William M. BRYANT:

The 1910 13th Census of Torrance County, NM reports William M. Bryant was at location 364 and dwelling 367 as household head and 55 years old. He was a farmer and spoke english. He had taken his children from Collin County, TX to a location in West Texas where he homesteaded. He left Collin County, TX about a year after his wife, Nancy Emma Byrd Bryant died in 1895. After a period of time in West Texas, he moved to Estancia Valley, Torrance County, NM and homesteaded again. The homestead was located a short distance from Estancia, NM. He owned property in the town of Estancia, NM and eventually built a residence there in town. The daughters, and perhaps the younger son, Reginald, was placed in a boarding school and attended school in Albuquerque, NM for a period of a few years. The older daughter, Sarah Ann "Sallie" Bryant, was married to Francis Marion Griffin by that time as it is believed she married about the year 1900.

Regarding the marriage of William M. Bryant and Nancy Emma Byrd see IGI Record Film # 1760944. The Individual Researcher: John William Bryant, Sr. a grandson, traveled to Estancia Valley and tried to locate this homestead but was not successful. The partial irrigation of some of this farmland still exists. William M. Bryant was one of the pioneers of this irrigation starting about 1910 to 1915. We don't know what was raised then but a large number of farmers now grow pumpkins.

Oral history is that William became ill and his oldest son, John Gibson Bryant, went to see him and took him to Hot Springs, NM for treatment and the baths. He did not recover and died there in Hot Springs. My father, John Gibson Bryant, told me he buried him there but much later when the interstate highway was built the cemetery was moved and we don't know where it was relocated.

Mr. Bryant was born at Newport, Cocke County, Tenn. June 24, 1860, and was therefore forty-seven years of age on the 24th of last June.
