Christian Schmidt m. 4 Oct 1849 (St. Johns, Buffalo) Mariann or Mary Ann Bernhard. Witnesses: Carl Schmidt and Philipp Koch.

Christian Schmidt m. 30 Sep 1845 (St. Johns, Buffalo) Catharina Schmidt (not sure if that's her maiden name or not). Witnesses: Andreas Oehler, Philipp Ohler, Philipp Seiber, Joh. Koch. Might be the first marriage of the previous Christian Schmidt?

Heinrich Schmidt, b. 22 Feb 1860, Buffalo; m. 15 Aug 1878 Caroline Beierle, b. 22 Feb 1854 Buffalo. Witnesses: Karl & Fran Kraenac, Magdalena (illeg.). (St. Peters German Evangelical Church)


Jacob Schmidt, b. abt. 1803; d. 1861 Buffalo; m. Helena Unknown (b. abt. 1816; d. 17 May 1886 Buffalo). Both buried United German & French Cemetery. (A Gertrude Emmerich is also buried with them; relation unknown.) Several children, most died young. Reached adulthood:
  • John Smith, b. 1846 Buffalo; moved to and settled in Peekskill, NY.

  • Other family members still living in Buffalo as late as 1895. There are also others buried in the family plot at UG&FC who may be family.

  • Peter SCHMIDT, b. abt. 1800 [age 50 in 1850 census]. Living with him in Black Rock, in 1850, is a Catherine SCHMIDT, age 21-- either a young wife, or a daughter. His occupation is "phainer" (I must be reading this incorrectly.) Both born Germany.

  • Peter SCHMIDT, b. abt. 1815 (35 in 1850 census - Black Rock); m. "D.", 34, both born Germany. Children (all born NY) include:
    • Martin SCHMIDT, b. abt. 1841
    • D. SCHMIDT (female), b. abt. 1845
    • John SCHMIDT, b. abt. 1847
    • Elizabeth SCHMIDT, b. abt. 1849

  • Peter SCHMIDT, b. abt. 1819 (31 in 1850 census), shoemaker; m. Anna M. Unknown, b. abt. 1825 (25 in 1850 census). Both born Germany. Living in 4th ward in 1850 with these children, all born NY:
    • Maria SCHMIDT, b. abt. 1847
    • Mary SCHMIDT, b. abt. 1850 (3 months old)
  • Michael Schmidt, b. abt. 1826 (24 in 1850 census), living with Peter and Anna M. above. Likely Peter's brother. Butcher, b. Germany.

  • Unknown SCHMIDT
    • Martin Schmidt; b. abt. 1827 Germany (Prussia?) emig. abt. 1860 (age 19); Catholic; fought in the Civil War; m. 1851 or 1855 Catherine Melcher. Martin died 1869 of war wounds.
      • Mary Catherine Schmidt, b. 1859 Buffalo; d. 1904 Toledo, OH; m1. Eugene Fellhauer (b. 1857 Germany; d. 1886 Toledo). Fellhauer was in the brewery business. Mary inherited saloon from her parents.

    • John Schmidt; emig. abt. 1850 (age 15); fought in the Civil War. After his brother Martin died, John married his brother's widow (in Toledo, OH by then). John worked as a boatman on the Erie Canal.
