and part owner of the former Nelson Grocery at Log Cabin Arbor. Member and past director of
Rockford Noon Lions. Past alderman for the city of Rockford. Longtime member of Alpine
Lutheran Church. Survivors include wife, Ruth; daughters, Zeda (John) Thomas of Colorado
Springs, Colo., and Patricia Huff of Springfield; son, Richard (Carol) Nelson of Rockford;
grandchildren, Michael, Sean and Nicole Thomas, Alison and Michael Huff and Kristina and
Patrick Nelson; and brothers, Clarence (Ann) Nelson and Frank (Thelma) Nelson.

Bronson in his History of Waterbury says of children. "...probably others" byt no evidence has been found of any others. Daniel, a nephew, mentions frequently in his daily journals, being with Samuel and his family. Says he had a sawmill. in 1760.1 He married Rachel Lattimore, daughter of David Lattimore Latimer and Mary Lattimore Latimer, on 10 May 1764 at Waterbury, New Haven, CT, USA.2 Samuel Guernsey I married Concurrence Smedley, daughter of Ephraim Smedley and Concurrence Hurd, on 13 November 1766 at Waterbury, New Haven, CT, USA.1 Samuel Guernsey I witnessed history: Amount of L 10 appears against his name, and was probably paid in lieu of service, which was lawful. ("Conn men in the Revolution" - pg 294) on 15 May 1777 at Drafted for continental service for 8 Months.1 He married Naomi Un-known circa 1790 at CT, USA.2 Samuel Guernsey I died in 1819 at Naugatuck, New Haven, CT, USA.3

The Rev. Leo J. Donahoe officiated, and burial was made in the church cemetery. The Fiser Funeral Home was in charge.
A son of Michael and Emma Rotsinger Steinhauser, he was born October 18, 1865 in Clyde, where he spent his entire life. He was educated in the Clyde schools.
He was married to Mary Scherer of Sandusky, who preceded him in death.
Survivors are a son, Franklin and a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Bahnsen, both of Sandusky; six grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Wm. Steinhauser of Hiawatha, Kansas.
Mr. Steinhauser was a retired farmer and a member of St. Mary's Catholic church. His illness extended over a period of four months.3

The funeral services will be held Friday morning at St. Mary's church, followed by interment in St. Mary's cemetery. Four sons by the first marriage and a son and one daughter by the second marriage, survive. Mrs. Frances Steinhouser Geise, who has been ill for the

Deceased was born in Baden, Germany, March 9, 1842, and
came to America in 1861. In 1863, at Sandusky, she was
married to Michael Steinhouser, and after his death,
several years later, she married George Geise. She was
the mother of nine children, six of whom survive, namely,
Frank and Henry Steinhouser of Clyde, Dr. Wm. Steinhouser
of Hamlin, Kas., John Steinhouser of Lockwood, Ohio, Ed.
Geise and Mrs. John Schwenk of Clyde. She also leaves a

Mr. Steinhauser, who had been ill since June, died at his residence Wednesday, November 24. He was born in rural Clyde December 27, 1906, the son of Henry and Margaret (Trusdle) Steinhauser.
He was reared in the Clyde area and spent his early life in the Merchant Marines serving on the Great Lakes on an oiler during World War II. He was first married to Rella Parish of Clyde and she preceded him in 1976. He later married Hazel Nearhood Burr Hofelich and she survives.
Also surviving is daughter, Mrs. John (Karen) Didich of Findlay; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Brown of Huston, Texas, Florence Kaufman of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Marie Johnston of Tyler, Texas.
In addition to his parents he was preceded by two sisters.
He was a member of the Clyde Eagles Aerie, K of C in Bellevue and St. Mary's Catholic Church. He retired from Whirlpool's Clyde Division in 1972 after working for the company for 37 years.
Friends were received at the funeral home Friday afternoon and evening where the rosary was recited Friday evening.2
