Anthony and Bernardine Gessler Steinhauser were probably married in Wurttemburg, Germany. Anthony was born November 17, 1841, and Bernardine in 1842. By 1869, they were near Clyde, Sandusky County, Ohio, were William Steinhauser was born January 8, 1869. The 1870 census reported the family near Stewartsville, DeKalb County, Missouri. The birthplace of John is not known, except he was born December 7, 1871, in Missouri. Probate Court records in Nodaway County show John Schieber was appointed curator of the estate indicating the family was living in Nodaway County at the time of Anthony's death, September 25, 1874. Anthony is buried in the Hopewell Cemetery east of Fairport with other Steinhauser's who cam to Missouri.
To settle the estate, the "home place" was sold to Henri(y) Dewolfe who had married Bernardine Steinhauser. In February of 1887, the brothers, ages 18 and 15, bought the 80 acres from the Dewolfes.
On November 4, 1891, at Conception, William "Bill" married Mary Magdalene Blomeke, born September 6, 1874, in Florence Township, Williams County, Ohio. John "Jack" never married but lived with the family. Bill and Mary Steinhauser had 12 children, eight of whom lived to adulthood: Margaret, Anthony, Michael, William, Stephanie, Marie, Leonard and Agatha.
Bill and John Steinhauser became extensive landowners in Nodaway and Gentry Counties. John, Bill and Mary were buried in the St. Columbus Cemetery at Conception.
