Heckler History: "George came to America in 1842 and lived in
Schuykill Co. in the area of his cousins Catherine and Elizabeth
(Heckler) Eickert..... He had come with his seven children: Michael,
Henry, Jurtel (f) Adam, Barbara, Leana and Crate. The oldest son,
Michael was a tailor by trade and lived and died in Philadelphia,
unmarried. The whereabouts of the others are unknown."

Full birthplace: Retchwiler, Soultz-sous-Foret, Wissembourg, Bas-
Rhin, France. Emigrated via Rotterdam to British colonies on board
Neptune, 30 September 1754 arriving at Philadelphia, PA.
Heckler History: "Upon his arrival he was quite penniless and could
not pay for his passage. He was sold into servitude for eighteen
pounds for a period of three years.... In the spring of 1785 George
purchased his father-in-law's plantation supposed to contain 243
acres for 2000 pounds in gold and silver....On this tract was
quarried some of the best building and flagstone in the township. At
one time there was a strip through the upper part of the tract
containing about 40 acres....called Heckler's Plain."
A copy of George Heckler's last will and testament, and personal
inventory was donated to the Mennonite Historians of Eastern
Pennsylvania at the Mennonite Heritage Center in Harleysville, PA by
the children of Clarence B. Heckler.

the neighbours called her the 'Ash Puddler'. She died in the
firecorner in Sept. 1822, age about 57 years and was buried in
Salford Mennonite Cem."

administration and settled up the estate, when each of the children

Skippack. For many years they climbed up a ladder to go upstairs. The
house was only a storey and a half high and had no parlour but had a
sleeping room downstairs, on the first floor. He was a weaver by
trade and he wove all their goods while his wife did the spinning as
long as the children were small. He lived to be an old man, and in is
old age he would often walk up to see his brother David on the old
homestead. George and Ann are buried in Towamencin Mennonite
Cemetery. They had five children...there may have been others that
died in infancy but nothing is known of these."
